at Dunestown Opener

Memoli kicked off the opening round of
the 27th annual Californ ia Racing Club/Ride rs '
Choice Performance/GMO -sponsored J.B.
Memorial Dunestown Series w ith a pair of class
wins apiece. Both riders won three out of four
motos entered on the J.B. Memorial Track at
Los Angeles County Raceway, with Pugm ire
topping the BScc ( 12- 13) and Supermini classes
and Memoli cleaning up in the 125cc Intermed iate and Schoolboy ranks.
Pugmire started things off with a ho leshot in
the opening Supermini contest, ahead of Chris
Plo uffe , Kalani Wa lsh and Michae l leib. Plo uffe
kept close ta bs on Pugmire and was hand ed
the first -m ore win when Pugmire we nt down
briefly on the last lap . Tyler Sjoberg climbed up
into a th ird-place finish, over Bryce Hu ffman
and leib.
Moto two was all Pugmire 's, as he e xited
[Urn on e out front and ne ver loo ked back.
Plouffe w ent down on lap o ne and wasn't a
(acto r in this mo to , finishing seventh for fifth
overall. Sjoberg, Walsh and Huffman battled
over t hird , beh ind Pugmire and l.eib, unt il
Wa lsh 's rear wheel s ta r te d to come apart.
Sjoberg us ed ]-] rid e s for the second-place
trophy, over the S-2 efforts of leib and the 4-4
sco re of Huffman .
Tyler Pierce got the holeshot in the opening
SScc ( 12- 13) mota , but h is le ad w as sho rt lived , as Pugmire was out front within a few
turns. Then Pugm ire d isappeared wi th the win .

finish, ahead of Sjoberg and Pierce.

CR8S for the w in. Leib was again runner-up ,
and Sjoberg put a last -lap pass on Huffman for
third in the moto and third overall.
The first 125 cc Intermediate contest
belonged to Memoli and his Scott/Thor-backed
CRF2S0R. Cory Redenius and Caleb Gos se laar
finished a close second and third, respectively.
Gosselaar was quickest out of the gate in
moto two, but he was soon be ing press ured by
bo t h Memoli and Redeni us. G os selaar kept
Memoli at bay to win the mota, but it was
Memoli 's I -2 tally that earned t he overal l.
Redenius went 2-3 for thi rd, be hind Gosselaar,
with Dan iel Hen drix (S-4) and Taylor Harmon
(6-S) rou nding out th e top five .

Hendrix finished all by himself in second, ahead
o f Kevin Wage man, Garrett Geo rge and Nick
Sanchez.
Hendrix made a race out of it in moto two,
as he hounde d Memoli right up until the
checke rs to make him work for that perfect I-I
score. Sanchez used 5-] rides for fourth overall,
behind Wageman (3-4).

hotbed of d irt -track racing. Many riders
hav e graduated fro m the sh ort t racks an d
gone on to national dirt-track andlor road-racing glory. Just a fe w ho urs south, though, parts
of ce ntral Califomia not as well known to the
steel-shoe crowd are catching the fever as
well. Recognizing this , the Califomia Motorcycle Association has been ru nning short-track
and TT events for the past couple of years.
The entries have shown consistent growth to t he point that the promoter now offers
several series that cover almost the entire calendar.

Dirt Track Shooto ut in Hanford,
California, w inning the
Open Expert division.
Tyler Pierce (80) leads eventual winner Trent Pugmire (96) in the second

T he 8 5cc No vice class was pretty packed
and feat ured some exciti ng racing. De nnis
Tren tman was the star, winning bo th the heat
and t he mai n, but a fe rocio us battl e raged
behind him fo r the remaini ng po dium Spots.
justin Degar was the ru nner-up in the heat race
but fell all the way to 10th in the main even t.
Justin Pete impr oved fro m fourt h in the heat to
se co nd in the main , while Keith Roush went
fro m sixth to third. Michael Cantu and Kyle
Lenhof rounded out the top ffve.
Landon Sullivan was using the TT as
crossover training fo r motocross. A regular on
the MX scene, Landon and his family thought
that focusing on turning abil ity and throttle
control for a night would do him some good. It
seemed to agree with the young KTM rider, as
he dominated 6Scc action. He won the heat
and ma in event in the 6Scc Novice class and
followed that up by taking the checkers in the
