In the end Dunne earned first overall, Parker second, and Greenwood third. In Ultima 500 Expert, the conflict between Dunne and Parker continued. Generally, this class includes motorcycles 32S-S80cc, built after 198 I. In moto one Parker had the front position coming out of the first turn , leading fo r three laps until he finally crashed , under the pressure of Dunne's presence. It was a repeat holeshot in moto two . Dunne's Maico obviously cornered better, and Parker 's Honda launched better. Together they rode, lap after lap. Ultimately Dunne arrived victorious at the finish line, with Parker grac iously accepting seco nd. Steve Parker flies aver the tabletop in the Over 40 Expert class at Sandia Motocross Park. Parker went on to take second ove ra ll in the class. te r several days of unseasonably cold, wet weather in the high deserts near Albuquerque, New Mexico, race ay fo r round five o f AHRMA:s Northwest Maico & CZ/ProFlo National Post -Vintage Motocross Series (PVMX) at Sandia Motocross Park near Albuquerque dawned bright and clear with sunshine enough to ple ase everyone. Given the SOOO-foot elevation at Sandia, many com petitors fou nd it necessary to adjus t carburetor jett ing. This was especially true o n the smaller two-stroke machines. The buzz and bark of anxious PV bikes washed through the pits before practice finally began on the A 62 brand-new motocross course. Experts Steve Parker and Paul Dunne provide d some of the most spectacular racing of the day. These two skilled riders were in each other's shadow in both motos of Over 40 Expert and Ultima 500 Expert . In Over 40, Parker overshot turn one during moto one , not beca use he was pushed out , but because "I just cou ldn't bear the thought of Dunne passing me in the start straight, and I lost track of my prog ress." In the fray, Dan Greenwood pulled the holeshot but relinquished the lead to Dunne on the second lap. Parker was never able to catch up to front-runners Dunne and Greenwood in the first moto, but he pulled the holeshot MAY 26, 2004 • CYC LE N EWS 40th Anniversary Donna Kelle led the first moto of Woman Novice, followed by Gayle Neal, Kathy McKibbon and Debbie Benson. In the second moto Kelle pulled another holeshot and went on to win the class. Neal was a no-show in the second rnoto, opening the door for Benson,who took second, and McKibben, who pulled down a third. The day's PVMX racing fi nished early.
