RPM's YZ278F/YZ302F Tita nium times two. Both bikes feature Ti pipes: The YZ302F (above) was fitted w ith an FMF Titanium 4 sy stem, while the YZ278F (be low) was sporting a Yoshimura TRS system . Both bikes bark with authority w ithout making your head ring. has easilybecome the company 's most popular kit. like the other kit the price includes a spare 79mm piston, head and two base gaskets. The 302 that we rode was fitted with an FMF Titanium Ti 4 exhaust system and 909 handlebars, and the revalved suspens ion was courtesy of Too Tech Suspension. The 276 was cool, but the 302 is damn near perfect . The 302 is extre mely easy to ride in allcond itions with an ext remely linear power de livery It doesn't feel as edgy as the . 276 - the powe r builds much more predictably giving you a lot of confide nce but , when you really need that extra power, it's there. The power is easily apparent throughout the rev range. There's more bottom end, making getting off the comer a breeze, and yet when you want to hamme r the moto r in the top end, it pulls and pulls hard. What I like is that you can still ride the bike hard like you would ride the stock bike, except that it's a lot more reward ing, and nowhere near as intimidatingas a 450 when you start getting fatigued. Dano preferred the 302 to the 278 as well, and he felt that it was a better a11> around bike fo r a variety of tracks. The jetting on 302 was excellent at Elsinore. picking up crisplyacross the rev range. The power is not nearly as abrupt as the 278's, which makes it easier to stay in ruts and drive off of the comer smoothly Overall we both agree . that the 302 is one of the most entertai ning motoc ross bikes we 've ridden. • YZ262F Big Bore $810 • YZ276F Big Bore ICE C UBE (no bot to m-e nd work) $ 1220 PONY UP RPMs has done its homewo rk, and after inq uiring aro und over t he past year, I've heard noth ing but good feedb ack abo ut Peterson's bikes in te rms of reliability. On e th ing that I t hink people should know is that Peterson is one of the most meticulou s people I've ever met at do cume nting every single aspect of his mod ifications and the p rocess . The amount of paperwork he creates on each bike is amazing. Start ing with your stock parts , everything is cataloged , and every step o f th e build is also documented. If you need to know anything about your bike down t he road, he can surely look up the informati on for you eN and answer your questions. 54 MAY 26, 2004 • CYCLE NEWS • YZ278F Big Bo re 5tro ke r $2278 • YZ302F Big Bore Stro ke r $2670 • YZ315F Big Bo re Stro ker ICE CUBE $3065 For more informat io n contact: RPMs 101I W.
