LOCAL TALENT MX Sports LoreHa Lynn's Mid-East A rea Qualifier Red BudMX Glass, Izzi Glide at Red Budl By BART NEWMAN BUCHANAN, MI, MAY 1 et weather and cool temps didn't de ter the more th an 450 ride rs w ho showed up for the MX Sports Lo retta Lynn's Mid-East Area Qualifier at Red Bud MX in Buchanan . Michigan. Kyle Glass used track smarts and consistency to grab t he ove rall victory in t he 12 5cc B Stock clas s , beat ing out 45 ot he r entries along t he way. In t he Mini ran ks, American Suzuki's Nico Izzi took wins in the Supermini and SScc ( 12- 13) Stock classes . During t he first round of metes, 4 1 12Scc B ride rs wer e o n the start ing line for th e main event, which would dete rm ine who will ma ke it to the ne xt level of qualifying for Loretta Lynn's . When the gate d ropped on the 12Scc B final, Matt Sheafor got a great jump out of the gat e and pulled the pack ar o und turn o ne , with Bar ry Veltm an, Glass , Aaron Harvey and Patrick Boyle in to w. Sheafor's day too k a turn for the wor se w he n he got upsid e down and got an up -close view of the sandy Red Bud loam, ending his day and dragg ing Boyle to th e ground as well. Veltman too k advantage of the m iscue and wen t t o wor k at o pe ning up a lead , w h ile Harvey and G la ss s wapped positions t hroug hout th e first t w o lap s . Veltman, in wo rk manlike style , held on to the top position as the laps went into the boo ks. While Glass and Harve y went at it , Z ac h Patten and Kyle King were mak ing up for starting outside the top 10 by fre ight-training through the pack to grab a pair of spots in th e top five. With on e lap to go , Veltman was in co ntrol and didn't give an inch , riding home w ith the win an d, with his 7- 1 e ffo rts, second ov e r all and a t ic ke t to t he Loretta Lynn's W regio nal qualifie r in Mitchell , Indiana, at the end of June . Shawm ut Hi lls /MC R Sus pension/Hansen -backed Glass (2-2) has be e n on the gas this season , and he used defensive lines and corner speed to lock up the ove ra ll wit h a pair o f runner-u p finishes . Harvey (S-3) left it a ll on the track but cou ldn't make a pass st ick on Glass , desp ite some great riding . and he had to settle for t hird overall. Rounding out the top five in the final w er e Pallen ( 10-4) and King (9-S), w ho both earned advancement to the region al, as d id Josh Radi (3-6 ) in fourth overall and Brian Howard (3-9) in fifth overall. Izzi had his bright yello w Suzukis out front all day, go ing four for fo ur in t he as cc ( 12- 13) Stock and Supe rm ini classes, all with runa way win s . Kyle Gorman (3 -2 ) and D a niel Aulseybrook (2-3) claimed th e re mainde r of the top th ree spots , wit h Gor man getting the nod in the t ie-b r e aki ng s eco nd moto .
