thought they might be teammates. They are n't, They didn't employ classic lines in the final turns. and Zemke was indecisive. weaving back and forth . 'And it was a bit dicey because the one guy. he was coming over," jake said. "The guy that was in front started co ming over pretty hard to the inside because he wante d to protect his line; he probably thought his buddy was trying to pass him. So I just threw it in there. I was just hoping that Mi uel was n't going to square us g all off and come flying by at the finish line. Luckily we held on for that o ne." Duhamel said he was ted too much time making up his mind. "I didn't know what to do ," the veteran said. "If you get you r nose to tail. if you commit yo urself to a move and it's not the right o ne. it could be very ugly. The last corner, actually. if I would have got it a little bit better and focused o n getting a good drive on the last corne r. proba bly wou ld have bee n a lot closer at the finish line. Yoshimura Suzuki's Ben Spies set the race reco rd of 94.503 mph last year on a GSX-RI000. Third we nt to Erion Honda's Alex Gobert , giving Honda 1-2-3 for the second race in a row. Gobert fell behind the lead trio early on, only making a move in the second half. By then Haskovec was falling off the lead pace, and Gobert saw a chance to podium . "I think with abo ut six to go I saw Vincent (Haskovec) just cresting into turn one , and I thought. 'I'm going to see if I can do one lap and see if I can pull him in a little bit. and if I get him as much as I want to this lap. I'll try to do a Miguel Duhamel at Sears Point and catch up to him...· Gobert said. Gobert said he caught Haskovec faste r than he thought and that he had tire to spare at the end . "My tires went down fast. and then they stayed really good for the rest of the race . Hat's off to Dunlop because I think that 's what helped tod ay," he said. Haskovec had 12 sec onds on jason Pridmore, late of the No Limits Suzuki team. The team reorganized prior to Barber, keeping jason Curtis. son of te am ow ner Ben Curtis. but re leasing Pridmore and t he injured jimmy Moore. Those two now operate under the tent of Pridmore's Star Motorcycle School. Pridmore began the race a distant eighth and slowly made his way forwa rd, still bot hered by the left arm he broke in a practice crash a month ago. Behind Pridmore came Triangle Cycle's Larry Pegram, two -tenths of a second in front of 91 I Racing's eN Mike Smith in a rare national appearance.
