Oklahoma State Champion ship Se rie s Raund 5: Woodland Hills Off-Road Park Blackwell, Berry Seize the Dayl By CHUCK BALL ANADARKO,OK,APR.25 D iders made the journey to Anadarko, Oklar\homa, for yet another round of the 2004 Oklahoma State Championship Series. Wit h clouds hovering in the days before the race, it was a sweet surp rise to see clear skies and warm tem pe ratures greet t he riders once again. Getting the day off to a rocking and rolling start in the highly competitive Open O utlaw class was Brett Cue , aboard his Honda 450cc four-stroke . Following close beh ind was the Yamaha-mounted Zack Blackwell, from nearby Yukon , Ok lahoma. As they made t heir w ay toward the back sect ion of the track , Blackwell began to make his move on Cue. Behind Cue we re Tyler Re id and C r aig Thomas , bo th aboard Yamahas, trying to ree l in the lead duo. It wasn't to be, though , as Blackwell completed the moto in the lead, we ll ahead of Cue, Reid and Thomas. Eric McClintock rounded out the top five. The second mota was much the same, as Cue once again came from the far outs ide off the gate to nab the holeshot and lead the pack for much o f t he first lap . It didn't last long, though, as Blackwell mad e his move on the second lap and quickly started putting distance between himself and Cue . As Blackwell made his getaway, Cue found himself under pre ssure from Reid. The two stayed within arm 's reach of one another until the final lap, when they co llided and Cue ended up on the gro und . Blackwell took the moto and the overa ll, ahead of Reid, Hudson and McClintock . Blackwell also we nt on to win the 125cc and 250cc Intermed iate classes, as we ll as the FourStroke class, losing only one mota out of eight, to 250cc Intermediate rider Cory Green. Justin Berry got his day off to a goo d start aboard his Yamaha 250F in the 125cc Novice class. as he jumped out fron t a nd virtually walked away unchallenged. Consistency paid off fo r jus tin Thurman and his RMZ250 , as he fin is he d second overall , a head o f Hon d amou nted Brock Halve rson. Be rry we nt on to win the 85cc Senior-class overall w ith two moto wins , ahead of Jesse Braden and Wil Barnard. Be rry 's luck wasn't perfect, though, as he finished fou rt h in t he Schoo lboy class, behind Jason Brunk, Sean Hackley and Reid. The Oklahoma State Series will visit Ponca City on May 30 and Motorcycle Raceway in Oklahoma City on june 26. R ESULTS 50 OI L-IN): I. Mitche ll Merr e ll (KTM); 2. Tanner Snell (KTM); 3.
