_ 1~~9it T ;l:======~~~~~ ~IJS ~ Northwest Vintage & Evolution MX Series Round 9: Woodland Motocross Park PH010S BY CLAY LIGHT Fox, Price Prevail! By CLAY W Danny Vinci (4-2) and LIGHT LAN , W APR . 4 ashingtonians Tony Fox and Monty Price prevailed in two classes apiece at the final round of the Northwest Vintage & Evolution Motocross Championship Series . Fox, an AMA Expert IT competitor, has also shown strong motocross prowess for the past few years . At the series finale, Fox, riding a 1979 Honda CR2S0 Elsinore. won the 2SOcc and Over 40 Expert classes, both via I-I sweeps at Woodland Motocross Park. Price , riding a C&J-framed Yamaha TI500, was victorious in the Open Evolution and FourStroke Expert classes and won three of his four rnotos on the day , Yamaha-mounted Kurt Stevens came close to a two-class win tally, but Price put an end to Stevens' chances. Stevens , though, didn't go away empty-handed, as the rider from Oregon captured an overall Unlimited Expert-class win, in addition to his second- place finish to Price in the Open Evolution Expert class. The 250cc Evolution class drew large numbers, as did most of the classes at the conclusion of the series, which began last September at the Ward Creek motocross track south of Seattle and closed at Woodland with around 300 riders from three Western states and Canada on hand . Bultaco rider Shea Patterson was the top performer in the 2SOc.c Evolution Amateur class, sweeping both motos. Honda riders Cole Cabler (2-2) and Randy Butler (4-3) finished second and third, respectively. Another class that filled the starting gate to capacity was the Open Vintage Amateur class. CZ-mounted Oregonian Mark Baer failed to capture a win in either mota, but the rider from Salem proved that, on this day at least, consistency pays, Baer's 2-3 finishes saw him atop the results, followed by Husqvarna riders W R~S. Wolf (S~4). Chris Johnson and Mike Mayes split moto wins, but neither could put together another solid moto, and both plummeted in the overall results. Chris Clark and Joe Casey have been at the head of the Vintage Expert classes throughout the season. Clark has had his way in the Open and Over 30 Expert classes, but the CZ rider from the Portland area has been plagued with problems in one class or another late in the season, Clark's dismal luck continued on this day as well: He copped an overall Over 30 Expertclass win with a 1-2 punch, ahead of Mark Sullivan (who won moto two) and Scott Smith. Clark was looking to go out with a bang. but instead his chances of a two-class sweep went awry after a moto-one DNF in the Open class. Oregon's Rick Ball pUltogether two solid rides to snare the win. While Clark did win moto two, it was Ball's 1-2 placings that earned the diminutive speedster the win. In the adjoined Intermediate class, AIAnderburg aced both motos to lead CZ riders Kelly Prociw and Brian Wry into the top three.
