Q ualifying started as a family affairwith Rodney Spencer Jr. setting fast time in the O pen Pro class. His uncle, Brad Spencer, was quickest in the Saddlemen O pen Vintage class. Spencer Jr., Tommy Carriger, Scott Corsetti and Frank Nye all scored Op en Pro heat -race wins and secured critical front-row starting spots for the Open Pro A main event . With Brad Spencer and Rick Hocking posting easy wins in their respective Vintage heat races, all eyes were upon them as they came to the line for the Saddlemen Vintage A main. /MY 19, 2004 • CYCLE NEWS KLH Racing/A&A Racing's Hocking had the pole for the Open Vintage A main. At the nash of green , Hocking got the holeshot with the tw o-stroke of Ken Netto in tow. Brad Spencer put a move on Netto as they dove into tum three. As the y crossed the stripe for the first time, it was Hocking, Brad Spencer and Netto, followed by Anthony Giammanco and Steve Hall. Just when it looked like Brad Spencer was going to make a race o ut of it, his Yamaha's ignition let go, and he was done for the night. It was all Hocking after that, as he opened a big lead over the rest of the field . Giammanco pressured Netto for second but had to settle for third. Hall was fourth, with Paul Rusin rounding out the top five. "We started off as a bad night," 40th Anniversary Hocking said. "[I] sheared a flywheel key, broke my case and thought the night might be over, but we got it fixed, and things went good from there. I won my heat and got the Dash [For Cash]. [I] chose the bottom for the main and got the start, and once I got the start, I knew it was have fun then!" The Top Gun 4S0 A-Main was led off the line by "old timer " Nye. Bradley Spencer Jr. was seco nd with Rodney Spencer Jr. in third. Rodney Jr. was really worki ng hard to get around his cousin Bradley [r., but to no avail. It finally paid off with two laps to go, and Rodney started closing up on leader Nye. With only one more lap to go there just wasn't Rod enough time for Rodney. Lake/Advantage Racing School/Engines
