was unfazed by the cha llenging con ditions as he
sco rched the course and the competitio n. beat ing seco nd -place finisher Ste vie Darrow by 31
points. Looking smooth and confident, Clem ent
method ically attacked th e sections, jumpi ng o ut
to a 14-po int lead at the conclusion o f th e first
loop, and he was never challenged thereafter.
Th e Montesa-rnount ed D arr ow put in his best
ri de of the season, top ping third-place finisher
Chad White by a convincing nine po ints. White
act ually had a very good third loo p, finishing on
16 , co mpared to th e 19 tally of Darrow and the
I 3 tally of Clem e nt , but it was n' t enough to
clo se the gap.
Th e Sen ior Advanced class was decided in a
shoe to ut between Tra cy Zentz and Tom
T hom pson . Afte r t he first loo p , Ze ntz had
ca rded a six, handily es tablishing a five -po int
margin over T ho mpson's I I po ints . Ken White
w as on 12, and Tho mas Hedwall was o n 13. It
see m e d t he fig ht wo ul d be fo r seco nd .
Thompson , tho ugh, was not go ing to settle fo r
seco nd easily, po sting a three -poi nt sco re
against th e six carded by Zentz. Hedwall also
hung in the re, posting a five , but the class win
was going to go to the victo r of the third loo p.
Kno wing the w in was on the line, Zen tz rose to
t he occasion and rode a nea rly flaw les s third
loo p , fin ish ing w it h a two -po int score and
secu ri ng t he win , ove r Thom pson , by five
points . Hedwall hung in fo r third on the day.
The long loop too k its toll o n th e Amate ur
and Novi ce classe s. Rid ing on ly two loops (to
preve nt ride rs fro m timing o ut), the Amateur
class provided the largest turnout - as well as
t he m o st DN Fs . Topping t he fie ld of 19
entrants, David Koerwitz had his wo rk cut out
for him. A first-loop score of 13 had him tie d
for second with Greg Smith , beh ind T. Mohler,
who wa s lea d ing t he way w it h a solid 10.
Koerwitz then po sted a class-lead ing sco re of
six on th e se con d loo p to w ra p up t he w in.
Mohler dropped back to second with a 12-po int
sco re, w hile Andr e w Parker, rid ing a 1974
TY 175, snea ked in fo r the final podium po sition.

line , the o rder was Wood, Ho rrocks, New kirk,

Erik Pfeiffer for fifth.

Ho rroc ks chased down Mart in, and they batt led
ba c k and fo rth . On lap fou r, Ho rroc ks
hamm e red ov e r t he finis h- line do ubl e a nd
se cured the lead. Ne w kirk ca ught Mart in, and
they swapped position s a coup le of times d uring
the final two of the seve n laps; Mart in prevailed
for second. Ho rroc ks earned the overa ll with a
2- 1 tally, and Wood secured se cond overall with
a 1-4 sco re . Marti n's 4-2 e ffor ts were go od
e noug h for third. Newki rk 's consistent th irds
e arn ed him fo urt h overall, an d Pfe iffer 's 6- S
ta lly edge d ou t Alford's 5- 6 fo r fifth.
Martin we nt on to take both moto wins in the
250cc A class. Horrocks (3-2) took second place.

lead and took the win .
Shipley got the moto-two holeshot, with Pfeiffer
on his hee ls, but Shipley checked ou t to w in the
second mo to as well. Pfeiffer held on for second
overall. Jim Ley (4-3) scored third. Alford (3-4) took
fourth, and Dwight L Fraser (7-5) was fifth.
