Jared Lange (51W) was the man to
beat in the 125cc ranks at the AHRMA
National MX at Cahuilla Creek
Motocross Park. Lange rode an orange
Yamaha MX 125 to victory in the
Sportsman 125cc Expert class, and he autdueled Steve Parker \245) to win the Classic
125cc Expert c ass an a Yamaha AT-1 MX.

young guns Jared Lange and Wes Poole
stood out amo ng the elder statesmen of
AHRMA du ring round four of the Speed
& Sport National Vintage Motocross
Series.
Riding motorcycles that left the factory
before they were even born - neither
man is old enough to buy beer legallyyet
- Lange, 20, and Poole, 19, were tops in
their respective Expert classes at Cahuilla
Creek. Lange came away with wins in the
Classic 125cc Expert and Sportsman
125cc Expert classes, while Poole won
the Prem ier 500cc Expert class.
Riding an immaculate Jim Nation-prepared 1970 Yamaha AT-I MX, Lange
stormed to victory in both Classic 125cc
Expert motos. He passed CZ I25-mounted Charlie Richardson in the early going
of moto one and then pulled away to take
the win, followed by Richardson and 1973
Husqvarna I25CR-mounted Steve Parker.
"I knew that I could run the pace
today," Lange said. "It was just about get ting around him [Richardson 1 smoothly.
Once I got past him, I kind of built a lead,
and I didn't really see anybody, so I just
cruised .
Lange looked even bener in
the second moto. Parker pulled the
holeshot, and the two waged
war, running side by side on
the last two laps. Lange
was just able to squeak
past Parker at the line
to secure the second
moto win. Parker's 3-2
bettered Richardson's
2-3 to land Parkersecondoverall.
With both riders some 20 years
his senior; it wou ld
be
natural to
expect that Lange is
a typical young
motocrosser; someone who races modern machines on a
regular basis and then
takes the occasional spin
on a vintage bike. Not
true, he says.
"I race vintage more than
anything," Lange said. "Modern
