one of those things. I just tried to ride safe and salvage
the podium."
It worked.
With less than three laps to go, Decker sped past to
garner second overall, and McCormick held on for
third.
Bess, fourth in the final moto, was pushed hard at the
fi nish by Christopher Gosselaar.
Gosselaar had amazingly fought his way from the
back in both races on his 250F. "I got a linle bit slowe r
bike than everybody else, so it makes me ride harder, "
he said.
A sixth in the fi rst race after a crash on the third lap,
co upled with his fi fth in round two, gave Gosselaar fifth
ove rall. In addition to riding harder, he also rode mor e
oft en , contest ing both t he 50 and 150cc Brown
Brot hers Racing Challenges, winning the lan er.
After dominating the podium the last five years, winning three times, Y
amaha rider Doug Dubach could not
pull a miracle out of the Dr. D bag of tricks.
"The first moto I had a lot of trouble," he said. "I
think I had the holeshot and then missed a shift and
wound up 10th or so, then I crashed on the th ird
straightaway, just a Iinle tip-over into the back of somebody, and maybe got back inside the top 20, and then I
stalled my bike. It was just a to ugh moto."
In the second moto, he climbed as high as sixth place,
netting him eighth overall.
"Not bad for an old guy w ho runs a business and
doesn't ride too much," Dubach said. "Everything hurts
fro m head to toe, but I managed to fake it all the way to
the checkered nag."
