None other than
the "Bad" one himself
graced the cover of
Issue # 18. Armed with
hisfactory Husqvama,
Brad Lackey had time
to nash the peace sign
before going to war
with the best in the
world during back-to-back days of GP racing
in Marche, Belgium, and Betekom, Belgium.
Due to an odd format, two 45-minute
rnotos were run per round, but GP points
were onlypaidto the best combinedoverall
finishes from both rounds. La
ckey finished
seventh overall on day one and eighth overallon daytwo to earn ninth-place points. His
teammate, Heikki Mikkola, made it easier
on himself, taking two overallwins for the
overallwin. Did ya follow that?. Mike Bast
Oa earned three consecutive mainevent

circuit...We compared the Honda CB550
to the Yamaha TXSOOA, declaring the

Believe it or not,
that isn't Cycle News
off-road editor Kit
Palmer tearing it up on
the 1984 Yamaha
yz 125Lfor our Issue
# 18cover, it's Yamaha
support rider Mike
Beier. Of course, Palmer did shoot the
photo of Beier. Likethe rest of the motorcycle publications of the time, we called
Yamaha's new tiddler a gutless turd in the
most diplomatic speech we could muster,
then we offered a tech story explaining
how you could make the L haulA .. So,
what did Keith Code do before opening
up his highlysuccessful Calif mia 5uperbike
o
School? Would you believ he was a
e
designer of high-fashion platform shoes?
We found that out when we profiled him in
this issue. So what if Code missed out on
the whole clear-hee led stripper revolution
goingon today, motorcycling has treated
him pretty well too... Bell Helmets was
advertisingits Moto-4 lid, touting it as "the
only one that can top Hannah."
