my pace, and before I knew it, I had a 30second lead and just kept go ing."
Woods added that he was happy to get
his second win of the season.
"Yeah, it's really good to match Bobby
after his second win two weeks ago,"
Woods said.
Pearson, on a YZ450F, made it a 1-2
sweep for the Montclair Yamaha team.
''I'm pretty happy, but I want to win,"
Pearson said. "I did what I've been doing
this year - got back on the start. You can't
do that. Those guys are too good to play
catch- up with . I made my way back up to
second, but I mean, I wasn't way bac k but
just enough. Th e dust was out the re and
pretty gnarly. I didn't want to get hurt and
slowed do wn in the dust."
Abbott had a fairly uneventful race,
spending most of it alone in fourt h where
he would finish.
"I had a great start - for me ," Abbott
said. 'i\nytime I'm up there in the top five
[o n the start], I'm pretty happy. I go t into
fourth there, and Russ and I had a good
battle , and Tilley was in front of us. Early
on it was so dusty, and late r on - it was just
a weird race with the weather.
"I was running third [beh ind Pearson]
for a while there, but Bonds en ded up
passing me with like two laps to go,"
Abbott said. "My bike just worked really
good; it was just weird having it snowing
and hailing at one time and be so silty.
When it was coming down, it got really
good, and I started having a better time.
All in all I'm not too disappointed with
fourth, but I still need to win some races.
I really want to win th is title . But Na than's
got a good lea d on us, so we gotta ham me r down and beat him. But he's riding
good, so ..."
Afte r a stun ning start, Tilley slipped
back to fifth, a lot of which had to do wit h
a handful of blisters.
"I was praying for a podium," Tilley
said, "but my hand was n't going along
w ith it. I've been having proble ms with
my right hand bliste ring lately, and I to re
all o f the skin of my palm. But, ove rall, it
went well. Iset into a pace, which worked
good for the first half, but I just haven't figeN
ured out the second hour yet ."
