THO World Supercro ss GP/THO AMA Supercross S eries
at promised to be an evening of
celebration for Team Yamaha
turned into a night of disappointment for the blue crew. Coming
into the Salt Lake City Supercross.
Team Yamaha's Chad Reed was sitting pretty to wrap
up his first ever U.S. Supercross Championship . But
that all changed literally overnight, as the AMA notified the Yamaha team that both Reed and David
Vuillemin, along with another rider, had bee n penalized 2S points each for using illegal fuel one week
earlier at the Dallas Supercross (see In The Wind...).
Suddenly, everything changed. And now the title will
be decided at next week's final round in Las Vegas.
The news came as quite a shock to both the team
and, of course, to Reed, who was looking forward to
a night of celebrating in Salt Lake but instead will
now have to wait another week . And with now just a
12-point lead (instead of 40) over Kevin Windham,
w ho pulled off the big win at Salt Lake, the title is
hardly in the bag.
For Windham and the Amsoil/Chaparral Honda
team, Windham's fourt h win of the year could not
have come at a better time . Windham certainly kicked the Yamaha team when they
were down and will hope that things
will contin ue his way at Las Vegas.
Following the Dallas Supercross,
before the ruling, Reed led
W
docked points. Now, the
title will be decided in
Las Vegas
