That's the sta tement Empower Your Future has been delivering to Dallas students for the past four years . Steve Harvanek, owner of Motion CycieSports Yamaha, brought the big rig pictured to help Empower Your Future bring supercross to the David G. Burnet Elementary School stu dents who may have otherwise never heard of or attended the 2004 AMA Supercross at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas. Empower Your Future is a national non profit organ ization started by Joe Chatham (pictured at bottom on micro phone) , a Dallas Police Motorcycle Officer. Through his community involvement and passion for motorcycles, Chatham developed the program to teach underprivileged young people that they are not limited, but self-actuating individuals who can reach their dreams through self-empowerment , education and perseverance. The program encourages children to take charge of their futures , become more productive citizens and know that their dreams are obta inable. The program begins in a school auditorium with guest speakers telling the students about their careers and passions and how they overcame different challenges to become successful. Guest speakers come from a variety of careers. Professional ath letes, television personalities and businessmen give the students a well-rounded view of the possibilities for channeling their own individual talents in the future. The featured guest speakers at David G. Burnet Elementary were Martina Moravcova (Slovakian O lympic silver medallist in swimming), Josh Demuth (Nation al Arenacross Champ ion) and Riley Kurosky (National Arenacross rookie of the year) . The y shared the challenges the y have met and t he goals they accompl ished to become w ho they are today. Then they took the kids outside, where volunteers from the motorcycle com munity (like volunteer Chris Headley, pictured) gave the students rides on motorcycles donated by Action Suzuki of Mesquite, Texas. Afterward , stu dents , teachers and volunteers were treated to a barbeque from Dickey's BBQ.
