One thing that has become synonymous with the event is the inclusion of the Reach for a Dream Foundat ion, which invites children with life-threatening disease s to meet their MotoGP he roe s. Fo ur children visited wit h Suzuki's John Hopkins, Kenny Roberts Jr. and Telefonica Movistar Honda's Sete Gibemau, who welcomed them to the Phakisa Free way circuit and provided the children with gifts and memorabiliafrom the weekend. "It puts our racing into focus, that's fo r sure," said Gibernau. "These childre n are braver than any rider, and I hope they recover soon ." Juani Meye r ( 16), who suffers from Chrone's disease, Ger hard Pretori us ( I 7), who has muscular dystrophy, and cancer suffere rs Dewalt Cillie rs (6) and Thuliswa Ntange ni ( I I) also got the chance to take a spin around the Welkom circuit in one of the official MotoGP Safety Cars . Ward Burton's 2002 Daytona SOD-winning NASCAR racecar was on display at the speedway and has been on display at Daytona USAthe speedway's NASCAR attraction since his win. Maybe it was a lucky omen for Reed, who proceeded to romp to an 8.742-second victory over Honda 's KevinWindham and Mike laRocco, in the first nighttime running of the Daytona Supercross.
