Team Green Team mate Chad Millholland at 10.001133,
the G5XR of Gainesville winner Vince Woska at
10.031130 and Ed Murphy Jr. on the Orient Express R6
at 10.07/133 .
Ellis was even mo re impressive on Sunday, being the
only rider to run consistently in the 9s. Ellis ran a low e.t.
9.88 en route to a sem ifinal bye, whic h landed him in his
third straight final cou nting his 200 3 World Finals win. In
the other semifinal Millho lland got by Woska . 9.98 to
10.04 to make his second-ever final. The veteran Ellis,
who took his first-ever 600 Supe rSport w in Atlanta in
1999. was destined to take this one, cruising by
Millholland in the final, 9.92 to 10.06.
The new Lee's Performance 1000 SuperSport class is
beginning to live up to its preseason hype wit h a full field
of bikes and some spirited competition. Keith Dennis
rode the MSP GSXR to his second straight number-one
qualifying effort at 9.3 11150, followed by Ch ip Ellis on
the Team Kawasaki ZX-IO at 9.32, Ryan Schnitz on the
Muzzy ZX-IO at 9.37 and Tommy Por che on the Brad
Mattei-tuned GSXR at 9.37.
The top qualifiers advanced to the semis with the
exception of Porche, who fe ll off pace and lost to Tim
Cottre ll in the quarte rs. T he race of the day saw
Kawasaki teammates Ellis and Schnitz facing off in the
semis . Schnitz got the holeshot and ran low e.t, of the
meet at 9.27 to Ellis' 9.37.
Denn is looked strong through eliminations , but as it
happened in Gainesville. he inexplicably stumbled in the
final. After identical .494 reaction times De nnis couldn't
get the bike down the trac k smoothly. as Schnitz took
the win for Muzzy with a 9.47 to Denn is' shut-off 10.58 .

winner Jamie McNaughton grabbed the number-one
qualifying spot on his V-Rod at 9.58/ 139, followed by
reigning cham p Mark Unde rw ood on the Patrick Racing
Warrio r at 9.7 1.
McNaughton broke and lost to the V-Rod of AHDRA
champ Tripp Nob les in the semifinals, as Underwood
cruised to his second straight final with a stro ng 9.65 on a
single. Nob les, who won 600 Super5port back in 1995,
had a nearly identical reaction time to Underwood in the
final but fell off his earlier pace and ran a 9.95 as
Underwood took his first win of the year and the points
lead, at 9.771137.
