This year 's event was even bigger, with 277 entries - a record turnout for Don Caner's STTARS event. This two-day program is run in conjunction with the big AMA Superbike weekend, with both disciplines complementing each other nicely. The supermoto track is a temporary one laid out in the infield of California Speedway, consisting of 12 turns over a distance of six-tenths of a mile. The biggest change this year was to the dirt sect ion, in the form of two bermed turns with four 5-foot whoops in the middle and an exit jump. Remaining was the long I 50-yard straight off the start, where triple-digit speeds were recorded. A stroll through the pits showed enormous manufacturer support as this exciting, up-dose form of racing continues to grow. New series sponsor Del Amo Motor-Sports of Redondo Beach, California, donated a new Yamaha yz4S0F outfitted to the max by Moto -Connection with all the latest gear, to be given away to some lucky soul. Saturday's action kicked off at high noon with the first of seven heat races , with riders fighting for one of only 28 spots available in L 26 APRIL 28 ,2004 • CYCLE NEWS 40th Anniversary
