The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame was recendy awarded a $5000 grant from the Antique Motorcycle Club of America to build an exhibit on the history of the Motor Maids. "We are so honored and so incredibly pleased that the Antique Motorcycle Club of America chose to support this project and recognizes the importance of this exhibit," stated museum director Pepper Massey-Swan. The Museum will utilize the funding to document the history of the world's oldest women's motorcycle organization through photographs and memorabilia. Massey-Swan wants to make certain that the many contributions women have made throughout the years are available to the public. The room currently houses the well-received Women in Motorcycling exhibit , on loan from the AHA and slated to leave in August, 2004 . "Both men and women were drawn to the exhibit and told us that it was an educational experience. This made us believe that other accomplishments made by women in motorcycling would be met with the same enthusiasm," MasseySwan added. The exhibit room will be entitled A Women's Story, changing every two to three years to feature a new aspect in women's motorcycling history. The Museum is working closely with the Motor Maids, who will be an inte rra cial part of the creation of the exhibit , making certain the facts are accurate. "It's an important story that deserves to be told , and we want to tell it well," Massey-Swan said. "We'll go to the source, get the facts and share them so the story will live on and inspire more people, more women, to join in and eelebrate motorcycling." A Women's Story - The History of the Motor Maids will open at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame in September. The exhibit will be available to visitors for two years.
