SlTARS Supermoto Grange Mota Circuit Winter Series Round S: Grange Mota Circuit Drew Picture-Perfect at Grange BT JAMET BLUNT APPLE VAUEY, CA, MAR. 28 D em em ber th e name Steve Drew. Racing for the first time at G ra nge , Drew no t only shattered the o ld track record of one minute and 16.32 seconds, he did it four times. On th is day, he was defin itely the fastest of the 12 1 entrants. First. in the 4SOcc class. Drew had to stan from the back, but he won his heat to garner a fro nt-row start in the main - and in the process lowered th e track record t o one m inut e and 16 secon ds flat . At the start of the main, Drew launched out front , ahead of Troy Lee/Fasst Company's Greg Trachy, Del Amo ' s Just in Ross , and Hahm Motorsports' Gary Trachy. On the first trip through the dirt , Greg too k over from Drew at the front. Down the back straight on lap two, Gary got by Ross for third . By lap three , Gary was fou r sec o nds back of Drew and Greg but charging har d. Exiting the dirt section for the third time , Drew dived unde r Greg and took the lead away. Further back, Team Kawasaki's Brandon Currie, on a 250, was pressuring Ross for fourth , and Berkeley Honda 's Jimmy Wood had worked his way up to sixth. O n lap five, Dre w turned a one-minute-and -15.65-secon d lap as he pulled away. This lap also saw Gary displace Greg for secon d. By lap six, Ross had a lot o f com pany , as Wood. Currie and Parts Unlimitedffhor's Trevor Vines all wanted his fo urt h spot. At t he checkered flag , Drew prevailed by a full straight over Gary, Greg, Ro ss. Wood. Currie and Vines . Drew even wheelied standing on his seat as he took the victory nag. For the O pe n Expe rt ma in, the Trachy brothe rs regrou ped an d came out swing ing. Add Varne r Motorsports ' Juan Benavidez t o the mix. and Dunlo p's Drew had to step it up another notch. Benavidez led the pack into tum one. Down the back straight, Gary shot up the outside to second, but coming out of the t hird turn in the infield, Drew emerged with the lead. Greg ran fourth, with Vines fifth and Ross sixth. Drew's plan at this point was to c he ck ou t ; however, Gary ha d his ga me to ge th e r and stepped it up. l ap t hree w as Whitt ing. Me anwhile , Gary - the only other rider capable of running in the o ne -min ut e and - IS-second range - stayed four se cond s back . At the end of the 12-lap main, it was Drew in front , with Gary three seconds back, Benavidez 22 seconds back in th ird, and Greg fourth. David Lucas Jr. had better luck in the Sem i-Pro class, as he rod e his CRF450R to his second win in as ma ny tries . Lucas made a pass on IS-year-old Matt Crouch Ma rk Weeks w a s the Pro-class winner for the win on the last lap.
