Hare & Hound Series.
Russ Pearson leaves them green with envy

Russell Pearson, on the Montclair Yamaha
YZ450F, held off a trio of Kawasaki
KX500s to take the overall win in the
second round of the National H&H
Series in Idaho. And with it, the defend ing champ moved into a tie for first place
w ith first-round winner Destry Abbott,
w ho finished fourth on the day. Kawasaki
riders Brian Brown and David Pearson
kept stride in the points race by placing
third and fourth , respectively.
The bomb run was the same as the
one the club used here three years ago. It
was a roughly mile-long banzai run
through tall sagebrush that concealed a
number of obstacles and then dropped

abruptly into a draw before funneling
through a narrow chute at the start of the
ribboned course.
Warm spring weather in the preceding
weeks had left the ground dry, and dust
was on every rider 's mind, and so was a
good start. The only hope of a clear ride,
besides a holeshot, was that a steady
wind, which blew in the morning, would
continue to blow all day and help clear the
dust quickly.
Russ Pearson and two former champ ions, Abbott and Brown, as well as David
Pearson, were serious about winning this
one, as they walked the start over and
over again, searching out the best possible line for what would no doubt be a
dusty race .
