KX500. Pierce was running 30th overall off the
bomb and knew he had to kick it up a no tch if
he wanted a good finish.
"I was really be hind o n the bomb and knew I
had to get to work qu ick!" exclaimed Pierce . "I
started picking other riders off right afte r the
start. I was battling with V3 [Brett Hoffma nI on
the first loop."
Pierce was a b le to take the lead w hen
Hoffman went down on the second loop.

" I saw Ray was ahead o f me and knew I had

was pret ty cautious, because I knew we still had

cou rse . It's rare to really o pe n the bike up. and
we were 80 m ph o ut there a lot tod ay!"
Sixteen-year-old Justin Morrow was the to p

high scores were the rule on th is day.
