The FROM previous week's rain may have put the event in jeopardy. but the foresighted CMA crew spent hours creating drainage areas so the tr ack's surface wou ldn't hold too much water. By Sunday morning. the surface was perfect. The Pro classes always attract a lot of attention in the ProAm series. Bes ide the 200·percen t payback in the I 25cc and 250cc dasses, the top riders have a chance to compe te in a onemota Pro -Am class fo r additi o naf deafer dollars . The top gun for the day was Ho nda privatee r Billy [urevich, wh o won the ProAm race, leading every lap. and also managed a sweep of bo th 2SOcc Pro motos. Clawson Moto rspo rts team rider Matt Gaines was t he run ner-up in both classes, while Vet Pro Jo hn Blair deserves mention for racing the yo unger guys and getting th ird overall in the 2SOcc class. After such a strong performanc e , it was n't surprising to see Blair win the afo rementioned Vet Pro class. KTM rider Mark Braden won a very tight battle with Joseph Reyno lds in th e 6Scc No vice class. Afte r finishing second in the opening mo t e, Braden fought back to edge Reynolds in the final and take the overall. Kyle T igert wen t unc halle nged in t he 65c c Intermediate class, and he beat full gat es in th e 65cc (9- 1I ) O pe n and X classes. 5t e ve n He mbre e , riding a YZ250F, wo n t he 125 Novice class , w hich co nsisted of two divisions . Hembree has st ead ily beco me o ne o f the class' fast es t r ide rs, so his victory itself wasn't much o f a surprise ; the real eye-opener was his winning perfonnance in the 2SOcc Novice class. Besides dealing with a w ho le new gro up o f race rs , Hembree o ve r cam e a maj o r horsepower disadvantage , as he w as riding the 2S0 F th ere as well.
