Nathan Woods scored his first WORCS win in Havasu, N at han Woods survived the heat , the w hoops and Bobby Bonds to wi n t he third ro und of t he Wo rld Off-Ro ad C ham pions hip Series in Lake Havasu City, Ariz ona, March I3- 14. Woods, o n his Mo ntclair Yamaha/Zi p-Ty Racing YZ2S0, fo und his way into the lead early on a nd managed to stay comfortably ahead of Team Gree n Kawasaki's Bonds to take his first W O RCS win. Bonds gave Woods some con cern after the KX2S0 ride r wo rked his way up th rough t he pac k and into second by t he fou rt h lap. Fro m the re , Bo nds , w ho won the pre vious WO RCS race in Texas , made a charge after Woods but co uldn't ge t any clo se r than about 30 seconds befo re eventually giving in to the heat, the br utally rough race course and a bliste red hand . Th e event wili feat ure the premier 450cc class, as well as 250cc , O pen Expert and Nov ice. T he bridge is ten tat ively planned to be unveiled at the Kawasaki AHA Supe rb ike Showdo wn, presen ted by Cycle Gear, April 30-May 2. Th e new bridge w illspan 180 feet and w ill be positioned clos e r to turn two. The new locat ion w illcre ate an additional 120 fee t of runoff at turn o ne and w ill remove t he o ld bridge abu tm en ts fro m the runoff area in turn one, according to a track re lease . T he new bridge will have ra mp s instead of stairs , wh ich will create for smoother pedestrian flow, and feat ure an e nclosed metal framework , a big im provement from the old wooden bridge that spanned th e area for many years. Gra ding for the new a butments has already been complet ed. and footings for t he bridge have been pou red. The bridge is be ing built in Alabama and should arrive at Infineon Race way in m id-April. Racew ay officials have also announced that the tu m-six br idge (Carous e l), which was ta ken down two months ago , w ill not be replaced. Th is wi ll afford race fans better sightlines of th e ro ad course and give com peti to rs more run off in that area. Th is mar ks the th ird major offseason project at Infineon Raceway as the ro ad course was repaved in August , and a new Med ical and Care Center is currently being construct ed in the main paddock area More than $65 million of improvements have been made at the facility since September, 2000, according to Infineon.
