By the ha lfway point, an inte nse battle brewed involving Davis, Abbott,
Naughton and David and Russ Pears on.
Davis, who had climbed h is way up
from ninth to third, completed t he seventh la p 5 .3 se co nd s ahead of Da vid
Pearson, who was just 1.4 seconds
ahead o f Naughton , who was just three
se conds ahead o f Abbott. But the rider
on the move was Russell Pearson, who
was only fo u r seconds be hin d Ab bott
an d was closing in fast .
Russell was on fire as he picked off o ne
rider at a t ime until he was running thi rd
w ith two laps to go . Suddenly, Russell's
bike develo pe d a transmission pro ble m
and co uldn't mai nta in
his unbelie vably fast
pace anymore. He
slipped back to 10th,
where he w o uld finish out the race.
Abbott turned up
the afterburners, as
well, getting around
David Pea rson and
Davis in the late
goings,
but
the
Kawasaki pilot cou ldn't catch Woods .
who was too far
ahead

catch .
Abbott got on t he
podium in third .
