Situated in a sm all valley just so ut h of War ner. Oklaho ma, Hickory Ridge 's black dirt and rutted corners seemed to be the selling point for many of the riders o n this weekend. The day got 011 to a good start. and so did KTM· mounted Mason Glo rioso , in the O pe n O utlaw c lass . G iving ch ase we re t he YZ F· mo unt ed Za ch Blackwe ll. Team Green/Shilt ride r Dennis [cncn. and Cory Gree n, aboard his mighty Hon da 4 50 . Ear ly on, t he battle lor se con d began to shape up, as Blackw e ll and Jonon traded pos itions back and fort h, all th e w hile tryin g t o reel in Glorioso. The mote finished with [onon in the point position, just ahea d of Glorioso. Blackwell, Green and Brett Cue. Moto two loo ked very much like t he first. as Glorioso o nce aga in nailed do wn the start, lollowed this time by Green and Blackwell. Afte r the Schoolboy class ro cket ed ou t o f the gate , Jonon was spotted out Iront early, as Nathan Co x and Trey Canard gave chase . Not to be denie d, Jono n turned up t he inte nsity and simply marched 011 to the w in. Following him to the chec kers were Co x and Canard. The second moto was more of the same , as [on on, Cox and Canard again came home in that order. Trae No rton pilo ted his Suzuki home in lo urt h, lollowed by Justin Thurman in filth. Jo non went o n to captu re the w in in t he 12Scc Inte rme diate class, as wel l. Th omas Hah n ma de his pr es ence le lt by storming to victory in all four Pro-dass motos. The Evolution class is quickly bec om ing the premier class to race in the Southwest Vintage Racing Group. More rid ers conti nue to sho w up o n the ir long-trave l. post- 1975 "Evo" bikes. Errol Ledu c and his clean TI500 have drawn others t o show u p and rac e o n t he ama zing a nd com pete nt Y amaha oil-road bike . With capable riders such as Leduc and Ted Fitzgerald in the driver's seat , the TTSOOs have bee n underrated for motocross . T he track conditions were e xce llent, with pract ice offering a lew mudholes just to keep the riders on the ir toes . De sp ite his poo r st art and his missed timing on the do w nhill, Truch inski tumed on the gas m uch faster t han he had in t he pre vio us moto, diving de e p into the co rn e rs, un til he lo und himse ll be hind 5tovin. T he tw o racers blazed down the tra ck side by side at incred ible speeds. Both ride rs wer e t hrowing up roo ste r tails going into the comers, with racing act ion rem inisce nt of t he days o f o ld . Th e t w o mode rn -day gla diat o r s. w it h t heir 4 0-hp chariots, used every inch of tra ck available to them. With Truch inski going w ide and Stovin hugging the inside line , they gave the impression that much more was at stake here than a gold medalli n.
