"Lamy" ran strong in the first two Easte rn SX rounds this year, but the Hangtownmx.com Honda rider had a couple of problems in Atlanta . "I got stu ck behind some slower riders off the start in my heat race, and I co uldn't jump the triple," said the two-time I25cc MX Champion. "I cased it really bad and hurt my bac k. I've had some disc problems for years now. It felt like knives shooting up my back. So I was just try ing to survive out there. I'm rea lly loo king forward to Daytona." Paul Carpenter improved greatly aver last week, scoring fifth from behind on hi s factory KX2 S0F. I Unfortunately it looks like Tyler Evans' Tommy , Hilfiger deal is over, as he was sporting stock graphics on his RM2S0 in Atlanta. He finished a recent high of ninth in the main event and looked strong most of the night. Atlanta was Mike laRocco's 199th Supercross. "I guess I like the cha llenge," he said. "These guys come up, and they bring new levels, and I watch tape, and , try to learn and adapt, and I just try to get that speed because to me it's fun to be in the race. I do n't wan t to be o ut there just to be o ut there, and I want to keep learning , no matter how o ld , am." Kevin Windham took his o ppo rt unity to confront his critics, wh o have already started referring to him as a chro nic seco nd-place guy. "O ccasio nally on the Intemet I've heard that maybe Reed was messing with me at Anaheim and stu ff like tha t, but at the end o f the day, I've w on th ree , and he's w o n five be fore tonight , so my rat io to him and me was pretty close," he said. "Th e d ifference in po ints is Anaheim I, w hen I got ninth , and San Francisco, wh e re I cras hed . Anybody tha t wants to hat e , t hat' s fine . They 've got to cheer for somebody, and I'm t hankful for the fans I've got . Ifyou 'r e not a KDub fan, then you might as well be a Reed or a Ricky or whatever fan. When I beat him, he 's pissed, and you can see it in his face . And to say that I'm not a force , and to say that people take me lightly, I'm riding against a guy that beat Ricky the last six races of the year last year - the win ningest rider around. I don't know what people are expecting of me , but I'm just doing the best I can for me , for my fans and my team. I'm not he re to save the world, I'm just here to race the best I can ." James Stewart Sr. decided to ask his so n Ja m e s an important question during the postrace press conference. What advice would James have for Davi Millsaps?"Well, Dad , w hen I came up to the pros, there was n't one guy out there who was dom inating the 12S class at the time," James Jr. said. '" know what he fee ls like , because I was expected to win everything. So I know wha t's it's like . My advice is to just have fun and be yo urself. It's a lo ng season."
