CLAREMORE, OK, JAN. 17-18
A s the Xtremeworld Arenacross Se r ies
Mreturned to Claremore's Expo Ce nte r for
rou nd five, riders came in from t he cold , wet
weather and were treated to indoor racing at
its finest.
Mark Blackwe ll steered his YZ250 F out to
the early lead in the night's first 125cc Pr o
mota. Robbie Smith and Shawn Coo k followed
closely in second and third, respectively. Smith
was looking to make a pass, and he did so by
the end of lap one. Riding mistake -free and fast,
Smith held on for the rest of the moto for the
win. Behind him, Blackwell held on to second.
Chris Shellenberger came home in third .
Mota two got off to a good start as jacob
Ba sha m absconded with the holeshot; Smith,
Blac kw e ll and Be n Schrik fo llo w e d . Smith
quickly put the pressure on Boshom as the two
bum ped and rub bed all ove r the track. O n lap
tw o, Smith finally made a pass, and he quickly
put some distance betwee n himself and the rest
of the pack. Blackwell moved up to challenge
Basham for the runner- up spot, and they pulled
away fro m Schrik , who wa s holding o ff
Shellenbe rger. Basham and Blac kw e ll got
tangled up in a corner, and both wen t down ,
but Blackwell remounted quickly and went on
to finis h second , ahead of Shellenberger, Schrik
and Basham . Smith lapped up to second.
A holeshot by Smith in the first 250cc Pro
moto was about as e xci ting as it got .
Shellenbe rger and Michae l Duran battled for
second for a few laps until Duran bobb led and
let Shellenberger get aw ay. Sm ith lapped
runner·up Shellenberger en route to the win.
Duran finished th ird.
Mota two was nearly a carbon copy of the
first, as Smith put his YZ450F o ut front and
pulled away. Again, Shellenbe rge r and Du ran
battled fo r the re main ing two spots .
Shellenberger came away w ith second in the
moto as well as second ove rall , w it h Duran

The final Pro race of the night was the
$3000, 25-lap Clash For Cash. Smith stuck the
nose of his YZ250 F o ut front, just ahead o f
Blackwe ll, for the early lead . Riding smoothly
yet aggressively. Smith was never challenged.
Instead, he let the battling for positions go on
behind him, as Blackwell and Boshom went at it
for severa l laps until Blackwe ll seem ingly flipped
a switch and pulled away. The top three finished
in that orde r, and Schrik finished ahead of
Shellenberger to take fourth .
"Man, that was one of the best nights of
racing I've ever had! " Smit h e xclaimed
afterward. "The trac k was pretty good. It got a
little rough toward the end, but it was the same
for everybody. The whoops were t he toughest ,
but I felt really good coming into tonight, and I
think I rode all right. I want to thank Troy Lee
Des igns, Reynard Modifications , Re nt hal, my
dad, my girl friend , Ba ke r Boys Yamaha, and
