The town's Palasports Arena was near capacity, with about 6S00 spectators paying their way in to watch some the world's best two-wheel balancing acts . The battle fo r the championship raged on between defending indoor champ Adam Raga of Spain and seven-time outdoor champ Dougie Lampkin. But with Raga'swin in France, he doubled his points lead to four over his British rival. Next weekend's event will be in Barcelona - Raga's horne event. Marseille served as the turn ing po int in last year's series , as Raga began his streak of five consecutive wins in the Palasports Arena on his way to the title. The underlying story of the French event was Albert Cabestany's regaining of confidence . He was the indoor wood champ two years ago and finished third in France after winningthe qualification round. Also, outdoor contender Takahisa Fujinarni showed promise with a second place in qualifying. although he finished fourth out of four in the final. F 54 QUALIFICATION LAP Fumitaka Nozaki was the first to go. He only reached the end of two sections - the fourth and fifth. Jerome Bethune , who started second, was not much better. Their scores of 36 and 34 kept them very far fro m any chance to dispute the final lap. Marc Freixa, on the other hand, was the first to clean the insidious waterfall , but he also fived three sections, scoring 19 points in to tal - not good enough to see him again in the late night. Graham [arvis was out of form on his way to 21 points . The fans started getting into it as Cabestany cleaned six sections, failing only section three. His score of five ended up the best of the meet by the end of the night. Then came the champion in charge, Adam Raga. He didn't let the crowd down and scored a total of 12, da bbing here and there. While he couldn't quite match Raga, Lampkin ended up the only one able to finish section three, losing just one point! However, he unfortunately flved section six, which was considered among the easiest. His finished with II .
