Always a hotbed of action , the 12Scc Intermediates had thre e heat races to determ ine starting pos itions fo r the main event. T he act ion was no nstop in heat one, as Jesse Moore burst o ut o f the gate on his Topeka Po w e rspo rts Kawasaki. The PJ I/Spy/ Re nt hal pilot soug ht to open a gap right away but found himself in fast company. in the fo rm o f Sean Hack le y Jr.; t he Team Gr e en Kaw asaki/ Pro Ci rc uit/N o Fear/ HRPlTwin Air-backed rid e r piloted his Mom- and-Dad-supported Kawasaki forward to cha llenge for th e lead as the pac k charged through the whoo ps. No t to be left o ut o f the fun , Cycle Center of De nton's Collin Gossett wanted to b reak up the pa r ty and attempted to st uff h is Suz u ki in to the to p position as th ey ap pro ach ed the Catapult. Up the step-up and leading to the double , Moore w as in control. Meanwhile , Hackle y a nd Gossett waged their own war. On the white-nag lap, lappers became a factor: When Moore w as bloc ked for just a mo ment, Hackley w as right there , with Gossett shadowing him. As they ro unded the right-hand be rm , Moo re held the lead , but Hackley was charging, attempting a pass to the inside , and Gossett wa s looki ng for a w ay arou nd. W ith Moore just a half -blkelength ahea d, the tw o fro nt -r u nners d ropp ed o ff t he step-up and down to the do uble that again doubled out to the last turn . Gossett bobbled . Hackley was on the inside and attempted a pass , but the cagey Moo re was not to be denied ; he twi sted the "loud hand le " all the way and won the drag race to the line . Taking th e checkers by a breath , Moo re had to be quick to avoid the me ss wh e n Hac kle y w e nt dow n ha rd a fte r t he fin ish , tucking his front e nd and catapulting hims e lf th rough th e air, e nding his tra jec t o ry wi t h a face -plant. To the cheers of the cro wd, Hackley got up q uickly. Hackley wou ld retu rn to finish seco nd in the mai n ev ent, behind th e win ne r, Far mingt o n, New.Mexico's Mark Graddy , on his Fun Cen ter Rac ingiA xo /Shred Shed/Deca l Wor ks/HRPbacked Suzuki. Th e racing started early and e nde d ea rly, and I 10 ride rs showed up to have fun on this co vered oval track. Diaz Moto rspo rts does an excellent job of putting these even ts toget her, and there w ill be racing year~ ro un d almost every weekend at the Chowchilla Fairgrou nds. There is a class for everyo ne. and ther e's plenty of time to pract ice before race time , too. T he day 's events w ere started w ith the little people aboard their SOcc bikes. Amber Felicio finished first in the SOcc Modified class. In the 80cc class, Michael Avila and Patrick McNam ara co ntinued their ongoing battle. Both of these you ngsters ar e very capabl e ride rs , and o n any given day eit her o ne of them cou ld win. Th is w ee k, it was KLH/A&A Rac ing 's McN amara wh o w o n this class, but Avila came bac k strong abo ard his Do nnie HarrellfTulare H onda-spo nso red 100cc mo unt and took the w in in the 1000c class. Jo seph Jaconetti had a gr eat ti me in th e IOOcc Adu lt class, riding with Marty Lawrence , but it was Michael Sanchez who finished in front of [aconerti in the Four-Stroke race. In the Vet A co ntest , Johnny Larson showed up a board a borro wed Ho nd a 4S0 . Aft er getting the holeshot and winning the heat race, Larson got caught up in traffic in the main even t and bobbled, coming out of the sec ond turn in the last po sition, Picking off the riders in from of him, he moved into first, with Mark Biscard i no t far beh ind. The race was paused to clean up a crash, and on the single- fi le restart, Larson led everyone e lse ar o und the track en route to victo ry. Larson got the holes hot in t he Vintage A class. but Steve Hall got around him, and when Larson went high to avoid a crash, John Proto got under him, too. Hall took the victory. O ssa rider John Frank too k t he Brake less class to t he finish line and was declared the vietor. Rid ing in t he Super Senior e ve nt, AI Ludwigsen made raci ng look easy and crossed the finish line first.
