D ound tw o of the 28th annual World Champl'i o nship ICE Speedway Series drew yet
another large, e nthusiastic crow d , eve n larger
than last seaso n's Trenton event. More than 500
fans sho wed up two ho urs before the race to
mee t th eir favorite riders, co llec t autographs
and r e ceiv e some in sights on t he e xot ic
machines . The event was presented by Maaco
of Tre nt o n and Inte rnation al Champion sh ip
Events , "we lco med" by Brian's Harley-Davidson/Bue ll of Langhorne , Pennsylvania, and sanctioned by the World Speedway Racing Association .
The firs t rou nd o f heat-race act ion was
highlighted b y wi ns b y d efend ing World
Champ ion Jam es Mann fro m Bolto n. England,
over Cay, North Carolina's Ronny Kem p, and
by New Yorker Cra ig Este lle 's winning his first
time up this season.
In the seco nd set of heats , Kemp and Mann
lined up for a rematch , with opposite results.
Estelle finished th ird. followed by Pine Grove ,
Pennsylvania's Chip Lengle.
In another he at , Ren o , N ev ad a ' s Bill
Hermant won his first race of the season .
Kemp, Mann and Este lle transferred on to
tile fron t ro w of the main event, based on the ir
heat -race points. Hermant, Tyier Hanson from
Misso ula , Montana, and Chris "Yo ung Gu n"
Strong fro m Binghampton , N e w Yo r k,
tr ansferre d to the se cond ro w afte r finishing
first t hro ugh th ird , respe ct ive ly, in the lastchance qualifier.
The anticipation was high for the Speed way
Bike final. Wh en starte r Keith Brewe r tripped
the gate, Kemp new off the line for the lead .
w it h Mann and Estelle in hot pursu it. Kem p
poured o n the coals , stretching his lead a bit
each lap until t he third one, when Strong and
Hermant tangled in turn s three and four. Both
riders ended up in the racing groove. forcing
refe ree Bruce Strong to stop the event. Chris
Stro ng was e xcluded from the race, and Robert
Arms fro m Taylors, South Carolina, stepped
into his place as a no.WC. points reserve rider.
The six-lap feat ure was re started, and this
time Mann got the jump from the number-two
starting slot , over Kemp. Though Kemp dogged
Mann on each and every lap, looking for a way
around, he just couldn't make the pass. Estelle
finished a clo se th ird, followed by Ha nso n.
Arms and Hermant.
ICE/WSRA "broke new ice" in Trenton by
invit ing a Pro Flat Track class to compete. A fine
field of riders sho wed up and, after their heats ,
lined up I I strong for the main. Battling his way
th ro ugh the field for the win was young John
Lew is fro m Brandamore, Pennsylvania. Clos e
be hind we re Emo no us, Pennsylvania's Mike
Scan and Dublin. Pennsylvania's Ron Wood .
The next stops for the World Championsh ip
title chase are at the Budwe iser Events Center
in Love land, Co lorado, on January 22 and Kay
Yeager Col ise um in Wichita Falls, Texas, on
January 24. for rou nds three and four. Round
five w ill take pla ce at the Bank o f America
Centre in Boise, Idaho, January 30-31, setting
th e stage for the Grand Finale at the Orleans
Arena in las Vegas, February 6-7.

cove r kept the weather warm ,
making the ra cing top -notch . As always , the
tra ck was prepped to Nat ional Pro level, and
300 ride rs made the trip out.
T he story of the day w as the r e t ur n of
Bubba Crosby, wh o suffered a broken femur
last year - a possible end to a youngster's racing
career. Crosby's return after almost six months
was awe some , as he scored two second -place
finishes. Taylo r Johnso n won both mot os in
both the 80cc ( 12- 15) and 80-IOScc Superm ini
contests, and Crosby was runn er-up in both.
Matthew McKinney made it an all-ye llow
podium in the 12·1 5 division. Forrest Lane used
his Suzuki to keep the Supermini event another
all-yellow affair.
The 12Scc A event w as all Mic hael
Sise more , w ho put h is Yamaha on c r uise
contro l. Suzu ki rider Ryan Stanesu scored the
second-place honors .
The 12Scc B division ran with the A riders,
and Jase Lewis kept Sise more hones t; the two
ra n away and hid fro m the pac k. Kawasaki
jockey Zach Thurston wo und up second afte r a
good ride. Suzuki pilot Cameron Sto ne took the
last pod ium spot.
The 125c c C d ivision featured a nother
action-packed contest . When the gate dropped ,
21 entrants made turn one a busy place. Robby
Winiarczyk, on his new four-stroke Honda , put
in the most cons istent per formance to captu re
the overall win. Y

second, ahead of Scott Sims.
The 2S0cc A conte st was anoth er Sisemore
run aw ay. Sise mo re open ed up a big lead and
ke pt pulling away with con sist e ntly low lap
times . Ke ntucky rider Stanesu kept his Suzuki in
second overa ll.
The 250c c B division ran with the A ride rs,
just as in the 125cc clas s. Thursto n put his
Honda in t he top spot with two wins. Charlie
Evans kept possession of second overall on his

Kawasaki. Broc Hinckley didn't allow a broken
fender to keep him off the podium .
The 2S0cc C class put on another display of
great riding. Brandon Anderson, on his ne w
Gaine sville Motorsports Honda, did the deal
w it h a couple of strong second -place finishes
for first overall. Kawasaki jockey Charles Hunt
ended up second overall. Bobby Downs used a
wi n in th e last m o to to keep hims e lf o n the
pod ium.
A new class fo r the 2004 se ason is the
Women's class . T he ladie s have bee n aski ng .
and the pro moters have re spo nded . Suzukimounted Amanda Bryant too k top honors w ith
w ins in both m o t os. Kawasa ki pilot Rachel

Downs to capture second. The Women's class
is going to be a po pular one , sure to grow as
time goes on .
This w as a combined event . te aming t he
Bremen Frozen Winter Ser ies wi th the GPG
Winter Serie s. It went off witho ut a hitch, and ,
as always. the perfect Breme n dirt was, we ll,
perfect.
