Dust in Pipes, without question one of t he fastest Mini riders in central California, made his big- bike debut aboard a sh iny new Honda C RF250 R. He go ' off t o a slightly rocky start w he n he stalled the bike in 'he first I25cc Y outh moto; a hot four-str oke can be tric ky, but it's even worse whe n you're not yet tall enough to touch both feet to the ground! While Jeff Alessi dom inated bot h mote s. Pipes rebounded to finish second in the final outing, which vaulted him into fo urt h overall in th e class. Finishing second and third we re Michael Dunnagan (2-4) and Kevin Wells (3-5 ). Pipes also e nte red the 12Scc Novice class, wher e th ings we nt a litt le more smoothly. He rode on the outs kirts of the top five and then moved from fifth to second in t he first moto, beh ind Yamaha· mounted Sleven Hembree, also a new Novice. In moto two, Hembree got the early lead , w ith Pipes run ning second - until he made a clean pass and the n held the lead to the chec kers , taking the ove rall victory. Not bad for a first day. Stephens ke pt increas ing his lead e n ro ute to the win, and Roy held off Stonecipher for second. Winschel pulled ano the r holeshot in mot o two , but th is time he kept it upright . Eaton and Roy gave chase . Stephens was surging forward , picking off ride rs one by one. By the second lap, he had o nly Winschel to beat · but that was easier said than done. W inschel wouldn't fold, and Stephens c hased him the entir e race . Finally, on the wh ite-nag lap, Ste phe ns made the pass and just edged Winschel at the line to take home th e 80cc Beginner crown . Roy finished th ird but ear ned sec ond overall. beat ing out Austin Murdock and Kyle Murdock. T he 12Scc Junio r class wa s all Cam e ron Rodrigue z, as the forme r minicycle hots hoe is start ing to get comfortab le o n t he b igger machines. Rodriguez , charging hard, led Robe rt Imo ndi, R.J. Kemple and Viet o r Imo ndi o n the fast and intense first lap. Rod riguez kicked it up a gear, and w he n Robe rt wen t do wn in a co r ner, it a ppea r e d to be all o ve r. Then Rodriguez we nt do wn, and Kemple took the lead. Rod riguez got back up, charged hard and took t he le ad bac k on the wh it e -flag lap . Michael Carde r made a late bid and almost got second from Kemple . Rodriguez led Kemp le as the second ha lf started . Carder and Victor passed and rep assed o ne another, fight ing for third . Kemple dr opped Patrick Provencher (818) gets the holeshot ahead of eventual winner JeH Alessi (801) and Dalton Dimick (909) in 12S" Intermediate action at round two of the Santa 's Sprocket MX Series.
