Dust in Pipes, without question one of t he
fastest Mini riders in central California, made his
big- bike debut aboard a sh iny new Honda
C RF250 R. He go ' off t o a slightly rocky start
w he n he stalled the bike in 'he first I25cc Y
outh
moto; a hot four-str oke can be tric ky, but it's
even worse whe n you're not yet tall enough to
touch both feet to the ground! While Jeff Alessi
dom inated bot h mote s. Pipes rebounded to
finish second in the final outing, which vaulted
him into fo urt h overall in th e class. Finishing
second and third we re Michael Dunnagan (2-4)
and Kevin Wells (3-5 ).
Pipes also e nte red the 12Scc Novice class,
wher e th ings we nt a litt le more smoothly. He
rode on the outs kirts of the top five and then
moved from fifth to second in t he first moto,
beh ind Yamaha· mounted Sleven Hembree, also
a new Novice. In moto two, Hembree got the
early lead , w ith Pipes run ning second - until he
made a clean pass and the n held the lead to the
chec kers , taking the ove rall victory. Not bad for
a first day.
