Th e Oakley Holiday J am Starwes t Motocross Park Oakley's Big Day Out By MIKE AND BARBARA PALUZZI MORENO VALLEY, CA, DEC. 27 akley and Starwest hosted their first -eve r Oakley Holiday Jam, and close to 600 riders showed up to race with the best . Oak ley, wh ich has been a big name in profess ional racing, decided to sponsor an amateur event , and w hat a turnout it had! Not on ly did Oakley specially design the first-place tr ophies. it also bro ught a couple of spo nsore d riders along. Jam es " Bubba" Ste wart w as presen t , along with Mike Metzger, and both signed autographs and wa tched some of the local talent on t he newly designed track. Malcolm McCassy Jr. was also prese nt, do ing a great job of providing t he play-by-play of the action on the track. Mike Ale ss i heated up the trac k to do minate the 125cc Inte rmediate, Schoolboy a nd Open clas ses . A.J . Sjostr om ke pt him honest but cou ldn't sto p the reign of Alessi. O ne of the biggest 125cc classes was t he No vice class . Twen ty- e ight ride rs lined t he gate , and it was a tough race to call. B.J. Bohre r too k his Yamaha to the front with the holeshot, fo llow ed by Roy Go ines and Se t h Kra mer. Bohrer had co mpany early on, as Goines was o n the move, looking to take the lead . Goines railed the tu rn, and going through the whoo p sect ion he grabbed a fistful of thrott le, flying by Bohrer for the lead. Before Bohr e r co uld get co mfo rtab le in th e se co nd position. Tyson Talkingto n made his move and too k ove r that spot. Bohre r se ttled in th ird. The che cke red nag waved and Goines took the win. followed by Talkington and Bohre r. In t he second mo t a , Bo hrer aga in ab sconded with the ho leshot and t he e arly lead . In this rnot o, new riders were charging to the front , and it looked like an e ntirely different race. Bohrer held the point position for one lap O before Sean Bailey charged his way into the lead , fo llowed by a Suzu ki-mo unted Co d y Tithof. It was a race to the e nd, with Bailey taking first, Tithof second and Bohr e r th ird . Go ines, wh o w on the first moto, had a bad start and a fall late r in th e mo to tha t wo uld cost him the title. Bohre r too k the overall win with 3-3 finishes, followed by Sean Bailey (6-1) in second . Robert Franco's 5-4 score too k the last pod ium position. Team Gree n rider s Kyle Cu nningham and Nick Paluzzi took control in the 85cc and 6Scc classes. Cunningham. who hails fro m Te xas. liked the "supercross-styte" track and proved it whe n he too k three t itles, in the a5cc ( 12- 13), SScc Ope n and Supe rmini division s. Paluzzi also too k three titles, in the 6Scc ( 10- 1I), 6Scc Open and ascc (7- 11) classes. Shawn Gntten too k ho me tr iple deu ces in bot h 6Scc classes and the ascc (7- 1 I) class, followed by Bryce Stewart.
