Gary Trachy (357) and Cory Call (62) were never more than a bikelength apart aver the course of the 12·lap 450cc ma in event at the STTARS Winter Series opener. Gary Trachy must have made a New Year's resolution that involved winning. because he started out the year with a bang. proving once again that he's supermoto 's fastest privateer. Some of the biggest names in the sport were vying (or a share of the $500 cash pu rse in the Open race . Motocr oss icon Micky Dymond stole the ho leshot fr om th e outs ide of ro w one and 1I17~ 31lO AM 1/1 lW4 121lO PM 1/1lW4 roo PM 111 lW4 4.1lO PM 1I1Ml4 5:00PM 1I20~ 12:00AM 1120104 1:00 AM 1120104 3:00PM 1120104 4:00 PM 1120104 51lO PM 1120104 71lO PM 1120104 7:3 PM 0 Canadian Motocross - Nanaimo TH AMA Superaoss - Anaheim O THO AMA Superaoss - Anaheim GNCC - The Spartan GNCC - Power Line Park CanadianMo tocross - Calgary Speedway Grand Prix - Norway AMA Superbike - Road America- Day I Speedway GrandPrix - Norway CanadianMo tocross - Ca ry lga Harley-Davidson Sportsters - Springtleld Harley-Davidson Sportsters- Sharon Speed ESP N2 ESP N2 Speed Speed Speed Speed Speed Speed Speed Speed Speed 1 f2~ 1~ l f2m 4 1 f27~ 1 f27~ l f27~ 1 f27~ 1f27104 l f27104 l f27~ 1131 104 1 131 ~ 31lOAM 41lO PM 121lO AM 1:00 AM 3:00 PM 4:00PM 5:00 PM 700 PM 7:30 PM 7:30 PM 3:00 AM 10:00 PM Canadian Motocross - Calgary Speed GNCC - The Irooman Speed Canadian Motocross - Reg ina Speed Speedway Grand Prix - Vear EndReview Speed AMA Superbike - Road America - Day2 Speed Speedway Grand Prix -Vear EndReview Speed Canadian Mo tocross - Reg ina Spe ed Sp eed Harley -Davidson Sport ters- Columbus s Harley-Davidson Sportsters- Springfield Speed THO AMA Super ross - San Diego c ESPN2 Ca nadian Motocross - Regina Spe ed ESPN2 THO AMA Supe oss- San Diego ra "I""\.&.L A _ _ : •• 0 . managed to hold off Trachy in the early laps. Meanwhile, Troy Lee Designs team rider Josh Chisum. who started from t he back of the grid due to a heat-ra ce DNF, passed 13 riders on the first lap. On lap t hree, Trach y mad e a ru n at Dymo nd in th e dirt sect ion: the two were side by side over th e twin dou ble jumps, but Dymond had t he in side line for th e ne xt corn e r an d ma int ained his le ad . Two laps late r, Dymond slid o ut in th e slippery dirt of the U-turn , w hich allowed Trachy to speed by and start building a lead. With tw o laps to go, Cory Call, w ho had also fallen in the dirt , caught and passed Dymond for second. Rounding out the top five were wild sliding man Matt Pursley and hard charger Chisum. The 450cc class was the other big race of the day, and Fasst Co./Flexx Handlebar-supported Trachy grabbed the hol eshot from pole position. Road racer Call dived into turn one right on Trachy's rear wheel and never let up. Call has a Daytona Pro Thunde r win on his resume, and the tec hnical Grange track suits his style . Trachy never relm qulshed th e lead but co uldn't pull away from the Cytomax/Mo to -stra no/CH M rider o ver t he course of the race . Te n second s beh ind th e leade rs, tee nage dirt t rack star Jimmy Wood had his hands full holding off the race lead e r's bro th er, Greg Trac y. T he two rid er s passed se ries champion Mark Cern icky midway through the race to claim the third and fourth spots . Allfour of the big motorcycle manufacture rs are now building 250cc four-stroke motocross bikes, and the 250cc class promises to be a barn- burner this seaso n. Del Arno Motorsports' Pablo Veglia pulled off t he wi n, beating motocross leg end Jeff Matiasevich in the process. Who knew trials riders cou ld go so fast? The Vet class for '04 is ope n to any bike, as long as the ride r is more than 35 years old. The grid was packed wi th 23 "old" guys , and retired motocrosser Juan Benavidez took the win over Super Moto Racer Magazine's Scott Hoffman. They may be old. but they're qUick! eN RESULTS MINI : I.
