As Yamaha pilot Kenneth Defoe r quickly gained a huge lead and held it for t he duration, Dillo n and Steventon bat tle d for ru nne r-up . Dillo n wo n that battle, and Stevento n placed third . Just like the weekend before, the response was overwhelming. Dozens of coats were donated , along w ith ca nned food and money to buy shoes for kids . In ex change for t hei r good will, racers were t re at e d to fre e entries. This made everyone smile , and the second even t was just as success ful. Th is close to C hristmas, o ne might have e xp ect ed to see fewe r race rs tu rn o ut , but the numbers w ere clo se to those o f th e week before , and th e do natio ns were just as good, if no t be tter. Of co urs e , the re was also ple nty of goo d racing . Landon Gentry topped the SOcc O pen class likewise in the SOcc (].8) co ntest . The combine d 65c c classe s ran alo ng with t he 8S cc Be ginne r class in both moto s. of getting the muck off to the sides, and they ended up with nearly perfect co nditio ns. In t he S5c c Beginne r class, Co rey He pner wa s head and sh ou lders above t he re st . He rode his Yamaha to wins in both mo tes. Halland Ethridge finishe d se con d in the first race and looked poised to ta ke a to p-th ree overall finish, but a co up le of g uys wit h t he last nam e of Huntsville Power Sport s' Kyle Gibson and Jake "The Snake" Wilborn led the 6Scc pack out of McCullough had t heir ow n plans. Jo rdan and Taylor McCu llough finished th ird and fourth . the gate in moto o ne , with Wilbo rn taki ng the holes hot. Gibson w as just be hind him, w ith respectively, in th e first mota. Jordan finished third. in front of Ethridge. Taylor (4 -2) wa s second overall. Jo rd an (3- 3) was th ird . and Et hridge (2 -S) fini shed fo urt h. early in bo th motos on his way to ano ther sweep. Behind him, Brian Alquist and Jackie Ives dueled for second overall. Ives went 2-3, wh ile Alquist w e nt 3·2 , so Alq ui s t won the t ie breaker. Ives came bac k and won the 8Scc X class, ahead of AJquist and all other entrants. little soupy. but the CMA crew did a great job (in w hich he wa s t he sole co ntender) after a successful struggle to complete t he race with tie-wraps ho lding his nat tire in place. Also in Charles Sheets (S-4) rou nded out the top five. In the Novice class. Kyle Tigert checked out classes all their own . Nan Sparks topped bot h SOcc O il-Injected motes. and Kyle Gibson did Wilborn led mos t of the race , but the 9-year- Michael Dunnagan had a banner day, posting top-three finishes in the 12Scc Youth and Novi ce classes at the second Clawson Motorsporls/ CMA United Way Benefit MX.
