"I was just trying to stay up and kee p pushing," Lange said. "But I could feel him back there." While De muth seemed content to stalk Lange from beh ind, Holmaster was wor king his way up past Brayton and gett ing to work on Hagset h lor third. Demuth , meanw hile, tested Lange in every section 01 the track and finally made his move over the catapu lt jump with a lap and a half left. Hofmaster he ld on fo r third, wit h Hagseth and Brayton rounding out the top five. Hofmaster was content to have a consistent weekend, and winning the Dash for Cash bot h Friday and Saturday night pro ved eN he can run with the leaders . Lang e (left) looks over his shoulder and sees Demuth closing in. WILL ROGE RS MEMORIAL C ENTER FORT WORTH , TEXAS RESULTS: JANUARY 2 -3 , 2004 (ROUND "He had a good pace going, and I was just trying to st ick on his rear wheel ," Hoffmaster said. "Traffic started to get thick, and he just pulled away. I'm happy to be on the podium safely and ready to go again." Elsewhere in t he race, Shawn Clark, Justin Brayto n and Kevin Johnso n we re engaged in a fight over fourth place. The three riders battled for a couple of laps as they sliced through lapped traffic. Brayton event ually came out o n top of their battle . followed by Johnso n and Clark. Third -place Hagset h was happy to make the podium. "I trained my butt off and made a co mmitment to have this be a new sta rt to the series," Hagseth said. Lange was back in action for the 250cc main event, but it was again Demuth who nailed the holeshot , with John Dowd and Brayto n providing a buffer between Demuth and Lange. De muth wasted no t ime putting distanc e between himself and Dowd and Brayton, who soon had his hands fullwith both Lange and Hofmaster. Lange made up groun d quickly and soon passed Dowd and was gaining ground o n Dem ut h. Lange closed to within a second or tw o of Demuth before a small bobble by Lange let Demuth escape with the win. Hofmast er wor ked hard to get around Dowd for third and, for the second time , made the podium along with his teammate De muth. "I just wanted to get up here on the pod ium and be consistent," Hofmaster said. "You try to ride smart; it's a long series ." Lange was obviously still disappointed with the 12Scc main-event disaster, and a second-place fi nish in the 250cc class was not the pick-me-u p the Canadian was looking for. SATURD A Y The 125cc class just didn't go well for Lange . Following Friday's blow-out , Lange suffered another disappo intment when he crashed in the first turn and remounted in last place. He also took out Clark in the crash. "I just lost the bike in the first corner, and it fl ew up and hit Shawn," Lange said. "I was banged up, and my neck was a little sore, but I managed to make it back up." Lange quickly started to wo rk his way up through the pack. Meanwhile, Ryan Huffman had taken the holeshot ahead of Demuth and Hofmaster. As they headed into the whoops sect ion of the trac k, both Demuth and Hofmaste r made quick work of Huffman and then separated themselves from the rest of the pack. While Hofmaster was giving chase and kee ping Demuth hones t, the pace almost cost him big time when he we nt down hard at the end of the whoops sect ion. However, he remounted quickly enough to keep his position, but Justin Brayton and Dowd wer e now right on his tail. "I dropped my front end at the end of the whoops and lost it," Hofmaste r said of the crash. Demuth went o n to take the win ahead of Hofmaster, while Brayton too k third and Dowd fourth . Lange had worked his way up to fifth by the fini sh. "It feels so good to win here," Demuth said. "Today is my daughter's birthday, and I'm happy to be out there doing this for her, my family, and lor Jesus." Huffman, once again, grabbed the holeshot in the 2S0cc final , with Demuth and Lange lalling in right behind him. It didn't take long, howe ver, lor Lange and Demuth to get around Huffman.
