Some much-welcomed rain moved into central Geo rgia just a few days before the event , making the 14-mile loop perfect. Former 'lOs and '80s factory Maico motocrosser and ISDE go ld medallist Barry Higgins showed up aboard a KTM 12S SX to do battle in the Senior class. Canadian Pro motocrosser Ryan Noland dec ided to come out and try his first off-road event wh ile winte ring in wa rm , sunny Georgia. A robust and ta lented A class left the line with Kawasaki of States boro 's Mark Le e out front, showing t he way. KTM USN Moo se Racing/Scott Enduro Engineering/Factory Effex rider Tommy Veator gated dead last and had his work cut out for him. Lee led the first lap, with points lead er Matt joh nson and Frank Anello in tow. Meanwhile. Veator was tearing through the pack. Right before the end of the se cond lap of the thre e -lap race, Veator overtook Lee for the lead. and he never look ed back en route to the win. lee held on for second. Anello overtook Matt Johnson for third. "I got my usual dead-last start: a happy Veator responded. "I just wo rked my way up to the front and had a blast." Yamaha rider Mark Snave ly handedly wo n the B class his first win of the series - followed by a close race between points leader johnny Britt and john Hall. The t ight est racing of the day was in C class. Brian Justice and Charlie Hunt traded positions severa l times per lap, with Justice getting the upper hand midway through lap three. Just one minute behind , points leader jos h Markosen had his hands full with young Chad Hall, who hounded him until the e nd. Higgins' closest co m pe t it io n o n t he day wa s KTM 625 mounted Danny Sutton. Higgins narrowly grabbed the start from Sutt on. Higgins got in the groove and put fo ur minutes on the field. Thad Binford turned in a good ride. as he finished second, over Bernard O resti, wh ile Sutton faded out of the top five due to poor tire selection. "Th is is the first time in six years I have been on a bike over 30 minutes," said Higgins. who was all grins. "It was a great time !" Ca li Priesh topped Ke lly Williams in the 60cc Youth division, w hile Christopher Williams won the 50cc class.
