classes with plenty or room to spare. He was
followed by Tripp Smith and Zackey McNeely.
Smit h swept se cond in bo th classe s, and
McNee ly swe pt third . Jordan Daniels swe pt the
65cc (10- 1 I) class wit h no problems at all.
Daniels was in great form . and he actually made
it through all of the 65cc (7-9) class and up to
the back of his 65cc (10- 1I) class! James Jordan
took second , fo llow ed by Tanner Saunders;
both were a good way beh ind Daniels.
In 125cc C actio n, Kev in 5mit h had no
pro blem sealing up the top spot, but a great
battle raged on behind him for second. Je re my
Stroupe and Jonathan Bryant wer e fighting for
every inch of dirt. Bryant held off Stroupe in the
first moto , but Stroupe wasn't about to make
that mistake again; in mo ta two , Bryant got out
front at the start, but Str oupe waited for his
chance and charged alongside Bryant across the
jump and completed the pass at the com e r and
held on for the second spot in the mota for
second overall. Brya nt too k t h ird overall,
followed by Nathaniel Rovira in fourth and Josh
Royal in fifth.

Black Jack Enduro Circu it
Round 9: Hardwood Enduro
Leivan Polishes OH Hardwood
Win - and 7th Blackjack Title
By PAM CARR
CHADWICK, MO, NOV. 16
A s in years past, the 36th annual Hardwood
/""\E nduro featured roc ky terrain and lots of
ledges. Sporadic rain made the morning loop
slippery, but by the afternoon it had dried out.
The long co urse was appro ximately 80
tough ground miles. The first chec k was at 5. 1
miles, and it caught most riders orr guard . It
was a tie brea ker that cost some peop le some
t ime. Those riding at the top of their minute
just barely had enough time to scrub off speed
to avoid burning the check.
The next four checks were reallyeasy, and
most people zeroed them . The first re al
po ints-taking section used a chec k-in, and the
ride rs had to deal with some bottlenecks. This
section was full of switchbacks, with hills that
40th Anniversary
caused many riders to dismount and take up
trail space. The fastest pe rson thro ugh t his
sect io n was Caleb Wohlen. Steve Leivan was
the second fastest , but that would be the only
t ime he'd be second fastest.
Virgin off-camb er tr ail made up the next
points-taki ng sectio n. It was ve ry slick, and this
meant the faste r guys had to conte nd with lots
of t raffic. Leivan was very fast in this section,
with a 3:43. The next closes t was Woh letz ,
with a 4:37 . This was t he end of the short
co urse; the long course was a 35 ~m i le-lo n g ,
24.mph mini hare scrambles.
The first part of the trail was a long singletrac k section that hadn't been ridden in the
mo rning. Lefvan was the fastest through the
sec tion, turn ing in a 3:39, and the next-best
score was a 5:37. Next was a lengthy reset to
