Wo lfer isn't used to anyone k eepin g up with him in the J unior ranks , but firs t -year Ju ni or ride r Boespfl ug was show ing him some fast li nes . B o espfl ug and Wolfe r h ad battled throughout th eir ent ire heat race, and th e fans wer e read y to see some m ore actio n in the ma in . They wer e not disappointed, as th e tw o raced back and forth until Wolfer had th e misfortune of land ing on a lapped rider ov er the triple jump and flew throu gh the bann ers int o a separate lane of tr affi c! Boespflug the n had easy sail ing to take the win some di stanc e ahead of the new second- placed rider, Brent Delay. T ak ing th ird wa s Charl es O 'M errill , and Wo lf er got ba ck o n the track in time to finish fo urth . Roundin g o ut th e top five was Cra ig Peterson. Th e 65cc Begin ner cl ass had som e mayhem, as riders wer e m oving up and down and fa lling all over the place. Off th e start of the main even t, Aaron Beck and Jeffrey King hel d the top two position s. Ma son Wharton got a po or start but started to pi ck off riders with a fiery determination. Mitch ell Vaughn , wh o wa s top dog in his hea t race, was k ept from run ning with th e leader s by a fall ea rly in the mai n . Wha rt on caugh t the Kawasaki -m ounted du o of B eck and Kin g and , aft er some br ief batt les , do u b le d hi s w a y b y th em i n t he rh ythm section . Wharton t he n held off the pack for the rem aind er of th e race to take the v ictory . Second w as sec u red by Beck , and King finis hed third. Cayl en Clardy took fourth, and Vaughn finis hed fifth . M ar k Conklin was th e early lead er in the O ver 30 Be ginner main ev ent. Andy David son, M i k e Jamison, Sha n non Ba rnes a nd Robert Shaffer were engaged in a fou r-w ay battle for second . The foursome went back and forth , bu t it lo o ked lik e Shaffer was the fastest of th e bunch, and he forged on through an d set hi s sights on Conklin 's rear fender . Barnes had som e of the worst luc k a pe rson co uld imagine : Th rou g ho ut the day , he was stalling his YZF250 four-stroke, and he even got some very cl o se vi ew s of the wonderful ho rse-bam soil. Barnes would catch up to the pack after h is m ishaps , o n ly to encounter another pro blem . Sha ff er g ained ground o n Conklin, but it was not to be, as Conklin too k a narrow but sure victory over Shaffer, in second. Roundi ng out the podium in third was the track medic.
