T im Ritzier, Loren Sharp and Keith Kehoe engaged in a go od battle o ver thi rd pla ce that lasted until Sharp c ra shed o u t of c ontention, and Kehoe pulled awa y from Ritzier. Pierce shot his CRF450R int o the second mota lead but q uickly ca me under fire from Lane , who dogged Pierce for th e first co uple of ci rcuits before stalling his YZF in a corner. L a n e' s mistake was a ll Pi e r c e needed t o escape unscathed for the ove rall on a 2-1 day. Lane' s 1·3 rid es edged ou t the 3· 2 tall y o f Kehoe fo r sec o nd ove rall.
