While the air was a bit nippy and the sk ies th reaten ed rain most of the day , ra cing wa s at its best once again under the co ver and lights at the Ch ow chilla Bambumer. Thi s was the ninth eve nt in the 10 -rac e po ints series. Amon g th e riders were Dana Perri and Rob ert Curry, bo th Pro riders go ing back more tha n 2 0 yea rs . A fter the r ac es , Perri, wh o wear s wonderful blu e-and-white-and-hot-p ink leathers, c o m m ent ed th at th is was a great pla c e and tha t he lov ed the track a nd th e event. Fr om the Pee Wee riders to th e speed way and big -bike ra cers, eve ry one had a good time. M icha el Avil a fini shed second in the 8 5c c Expert class. A vila took the first sp ot in a field of eight rid ers in th e Youth Two · Strok e Open class, aboa rd his new Ho nda sponso re d by Don nie Harrell and Tulare Honda. Av ila and Garrett Slate put on a show wh ile com peting for th e first spot in both rac es. Slate fin ished fir st. Perri, ridin g Stev e Lacy 's Honda 350 , and Curry, on a Honda 450, co m peted in the Vet Expert cla ss, but it was Mark B iscardi, also on a Honda 450, wh o made it t o th e first turn first. Curry has rec ent ly returned to flat track aft er co m peting as an Expert in speedway for many yea rs. Perri won , fo llo wed by Cu rry and Bi sc ard i. M ichael San ch ez ro de hard in th e 100cc Modified class , t aking th e lead but also taking a fa l l , and he fi n is hed in t he se co nd spo t, beh ind Slate. Briar Bauma n was first to th e check ers in th e 85cc Nov ice cias s, foliowed by Rick y Diaz Jr. , wh o ho lds the class poin ts lead . Justi n D eger and John Walker fi nished in the thi rd and fo urth spots, Perr i wa s back on th e track for th e Vinta ge eve nt , leaving John Frank and J ohnn y Larso n t o co m pete for the seco nd spo t. Fra nk (who ju st the week pri or had cl aimed , " I have never had so much fun finishing last " ) beat Lars on off th e line and into th e first turn and held th e second spo t , behind Perri, t o the fin ish.
