The event d oubl ed as t he 16 th and final ro und of th e in au gu ral Sou thern A IISta rs MX Tour. Rid ers from six st at es were on hand. Honda-mounted J on B oruff c a me from behind in th e open ing moto t o post an eventua l 2 -2 tally , ove r Josh Wh itmire. Ward sw itched to his Honda for th e 250cc ev e nt, and the W ard / B oruff match-up wa s re d- h o t. In th e first moto, Ward showed the way during the open ing laps, w ith Bo ruff latched to h is re a r fender. When the du o en coun t ered lapp ed tr affi c . Boruff f ound an o pe ni n g t o th e front and nailed down th e moto win in a close fi nish ov er Ward . Crossing the finish li ne in th e final 250c c m ot o , Ward was in first spot , ahe ad of Boruff . Earlier in th e m ot a , h ow ev er , wi th a r id er down o n the track , W ard h ad faile d t o o bey the y ello w ca ution flag and was penal ized .
