As th e rac e progressed, Silverthorn maintained a sl ight lead o ver Hill and Suzuki p il ot Rex Preddy , F ind ing th e fastest lines on the inc rea singly rough trac k, Silv erth orn wa s ab le to sta ve off Hill 's challe nge. At th e fi n ish , Silverthorn nabbed first pl ace, with Hill slightly back in second and Predd y furth er back in third , A s th e pac k roared th rough th e fir st tum in m ot a tw o , it was Hill snaring th e lead. Close behind were Silverthorn and Maico man Greg Sh ep ard . By th e end of lap o ne, Sil verthorn had wo rke d his way int o first place. This ti m e, Silv erthorn left no doubt abou t the outcome of the race. He soon built a la rge lead over th e rest of th e pack , Hill and Shepard sett led into second and thi rd , res pec tive ly . A s the 50cc Sen ior cl ass ro unded tum one for th e first ti m e, Dillon Fi nley was flying out fro nt , w ith Ja c ob Behr inger , Ky ler Gimenez, Nich olas Velie and J arred Williams following, Behringer qu ickly m ade his move in the fast blac k-dirt , dow nhill sectio n and took the lead fo r good .
