Th e Sup er Seri es is un iq ue: a th ree -race seri es that offers a monstrous 6 -foo t trophy to those who win. Needl ess to say . the re were m any who wan ted a pi ece of th is actio n. One of th e seekers of thi s pri ze was Dillon J ones, wh o wo und up winn ing th e 125cc Novice cl ass, When the gate drop ped for the fi rst 125cc Inter m ed iat e/ Novice moto, it was Ma tt Lee, wh o j u st r ec entl y turne d Nov i c e . wh o absconded with the ho leshot, ove r Intermediate rider Bryan Mu llin. Followin g th is fast duo were the rest of the Novices - An thony Gould, Myl es Starkweather, Jones and Wesley Ostman. Mu lli n made quick work of Lee on the back section of the tra ck, but Lee didn 't let the Interm ediat e rid er off the hook. Lee matched Mu llin 's eve r y move throughout th e entire rac e. Not too far beh ind these two wer e Starkweather and Jones, who had both m oved past Gould. Jones pr essured Starkweather all th e way to the chec ke rs, to no ava il. The fin ishing order in th e Novic e class was Lee , Starkweather, Jon es, Gould and Ostman, Wh en th e gate fell fo r m oto tw o, J on es' quic k react ion time put him out front, ah ead of Mull in, Starkweath er , O stman, Gould and first-rnoto Novi c e winn er Lee . Mullin again mad e qu ick work of th e Nov ic es and slow ly began to pu ll out to a sm all lead . J ones wa s left to fend off Starkweather fo r t he ov erall win . Starkweather was no do u b t think ing about a 2·1 tally, as a 2 -2 sc ore would not beat Jones' 3 -1 fini shes . Starkweather tr ied every line on the tra ck, but it wa s to no avai l, and Jo ne s wo n w i th a few bikeleng th s to spare . Lee incu rr ed a flat tire after lap on e and fell back . Fo llo wing Jones and Starkwea ther were Ostman and Gould. Jo nes' 2· 1 ta lly was indeed good for first overall, Starkw eath er garnered seco nd ove rall w ith a 2 -2 sco re, and th ird overall went to Ostm an (5-3) . 51)'« Bowman ; 5. R~I &{I. . 14-24 A:.
