Jessy Nelson put a stranglehold on the 50cc (7-8) Stock and 50cc (4-8) Open c lasses in Rancho Cordova, California. Thor/FMF's J essy Ne lson, who took on a couple of local fast guys - Mark Braden and Aaron Williams - in the 50cc (7-8) Stock and (4-8) Open classes . Williams provided the most challenge, as he put his Racer's Pit Stop -backed Polini out front early on in the 50cc (7 -8) Stock moto. How ever, Nelson had the lead by lap two, and he ran away with the win. Nelson then returned in the 50cc (4-8) Open class and took a wire-to-wire win over Braden. There were four different winners in the hotly contested 65cc classes . Ty Keenom rebounded from a 6 -4 qualifier effort to score the win in the 65cc ( 6- 9) Stock class, over Kyl e Tigert. Though Tigert came in with a solid 1-3 qualifier effort, he got off to about a 10th-place st art in the 38 rider fina l. After mak ing h is way through the field , he found Keenom just out of rea ch at the checkers . Provo , Utah's Levi Hall and Ricky Rin auro bested the fi eld in the 65cc (6 -9) Modified class and the 65 c c (10- 11) Stock class, respectively. But it was Fox/FMF/Smith/Torco/Thousand Oaks KTM rider Landon Currier from Brush Prairie, Washington, who p roved to be t he m o st co ns istent of th e b un c h , t a k i n g perfect 1- I - I scores in both the 65cc (10 -11) Mod ified and 65cc (6- I I ) Open classes . Currier utilized go od starts all week and fought o ff se v er a l advan c e s offered up by Rinauro. In fact , th e tw o came ac ross t he fin is h li ne side by side in th e 65 c c ( 10 - 1 1) Modified moto, and it was Currier by a knobby. T he So Cal du o of Kawa sak i jockey Johnn y Je ld erd a and Yama h a mounted Trevor Reis pu t the h urt on t h e 85 c c (7 - 1 1) classes. Jelderda turned in a 4-3 - I effort, besting Cu rrie r i n t he S to ck class , while Re i s p u lled off a 1-7 - 1 score for the win o ve r J elderd a in the Modifi ed cla ss. Suzuki pilot Luke Layt on rece ived the news of the arri va l of a new bab y sis ter on Saturday night, so he cel ebrat ed by promptly go ing out and winning all h is motos in the 85 c c ( 14 - 15 ) Stock and Modified classes , over Joey A lvarez and Ross Pach eco, respect ively . On e of only two t rip l e-c lass win ners on the week was D ustin Enochs of Fresno, California. Enochs rod e his Cycle Gear/Clawson Motorsp orts / APF Racing-backed Yamaha to con vincing win s i n the 85cc ( 12- 13) Stock and Modified classes , as well as the 85cc (7 - 15) Open class, wh ich featured a 32 -rider field . Suzuki/Shift/RG3 rider Drew Gos selaar wa ited all da y to ride his on ly moto, the Supermini class , as all his other bikes were back home, getting prepped for the U .S . Open i n L as Vegas . Gosselaar took a wire-to-wir e victory ov er Honda -mounted Austin Eitel in the fina l moto of th e da y. In the Sch oolboy and 125cc class es, a whole slew of fast riders took to the gate in ea ch moto . On e o f th e surprise entri es in th e Sch o olb o y Modi f i ed cla ss was T eam Gre en Kawasaki jockey Justin Keen ey. Hav ing just recently turned pro , Ke en ey ra ised the eye b ro ws of sev er al who inquired into the rul ing of a pro rid in g in the Schoolboy class. AMP stu ck to th e non cl assificati on heading of the class , and since Keeney fell wi thi n th e 12- to 15-ye ar- o l d a ge gro up (based o n th e J anu ar y 1 ru le), he was eligible .
