Matt Kn ese k , sponso red b y Bad seed Clothing , John Bur r Ra c in g , Globe and Uni Filter, headed up the freestyl e demo to entertain the fam i l i e s o ut for a fu n wee kend . Adam Jones, Luke O 'Brien and a handful of loc a l N evada FM Xers were o n hand t o de mons t ra te why so mu ch ta le nt evo lves fro m north ern Ne vada. Oth er high li ghts o f t h e w eeken d w ere th e Fast 5 0 s races . Th is class has ne v er been run at Hon ey Lake , and th e Pee Wee tr ack turned out t o be perfect t err ain for some "s erious " and fast 50cc pilots. In th e l8-yearsand -o lder c l ass, Ke nny Lash , Greg K ing, Trav is Hamm , Harv ey Sou le and - in keeping with th e element of fun - Bob " M o t o m o u t h " Kavak i s entered th e co nte st in an attempt to ke ep th e l ig h t he a r ted atmosph ere going . Aboa rd his J er em y McGrath / Bud Light-back ed bik e, Hamm easily took the hol esh ot and found himself seconds ahead of Lash , who was fo llo wed by Cars on Cit y , N ev ada 's K ing . As Kav ak is cam e aro und on lap tw o , leadin g by at lea st 10 seconds , one was led to wonder whether he had g ain ed amazing speed or if he had found an a lternate , shorter course! K a v a ki s an d Las h spent the entire m oto head to head in a battle that left at least one of them face down in the d i rt. J eff Northrop , Tiearne y , T omm y J ean , Robert Beaupre, Ryan McElfi sh, Tony Evans and J im Bryant were all set on tak ing home th e tow er in g " fl o at in g " t r o ph y , whi ch spe n ds a ye ar with the victor of the 2 50cc Pro class . Evans can easil y be co mmend ed as th e k ing of ho le sh ots for t h e day , as hi s speed was almost unholy up the straightaway in his p ur suit of the w in. Fo ll o wi ng closel y wer e the Kawasak i-mounted Jeff Northrop and Suz uki jockey T iearney ; Ev an s held th e two o f th em off until Tiea rne y fina lly m ade his m ove into fir st , and then Northrop followed sui t , and th e tw o quickly left Evans with third and Tommy a cl ose fo urth. Tiearney had the lead , but j ust ba rely , as Jeff was wildly lo oking for an opening . T iearn ey was still out fron t on th e thi rd l ap . J ef f w as seconds beh ind , a n d h e attempted a p ass af ter th e d oubl e -jum p sect io n, but Ti earn ey wa s slig htly fast er c om ing o ut of th e j um ps, and he ma intained his l ead. J eff's second attempt was more suc c essful, as he chose to go high and wide on a berm and m ad e it out just ahead of Ti earn ey. Northrop heaved hi s bike forw ard and was now being c ha se d for th e first-pl ac e position . T he riders were so close tog eth er that it w as almost difficu lt to d et erm in e w he re th e K awasak i ende d and th e Suzu ki sta rt ed . As Jeff came around f or h is l as t l a p , Tiearney wasn't making th ings easy for him, and as the two rounded Clubhouse Corner , Jeff almost lost his fr ont pos iti on when T iearney attempted t o pass him on the inside, but J eff managed to close the gap befo re Tiearney co ul d get thro ugh. Ti earney wanted th e win m ore th an any othe r rid er, and by the lo ok of th ings · he had more than a five-s econd lead on th e pa ck · that w in wa s h is. T iearn ey took t he t op h on ors , w ith J eff a nd Mc Elfish close behind in second and th ird, resp ect ive ly . Th e w eek end w a s dedi ca ted to honoring and celebra ti ng a very spe c ial person who lived to rid e, and his deat h was a l oss n o t only to his friends and fam il y but to m ore people than anyone c a n beg in t o imagin e.
