Th e club put together t wo incredible courses for its "A rea 5 1" Dual Euro pean Sc ra m b le races, wh ich had m ore than 60 0 rid ers bravin g triple-digit temperatures in the Mojave Desert . Th e club' s t wo cou rses fav ore d ve r y d ifferent riding styles : Co urse A wa s fifth -gear -p in ne d, flat and fas t. wh il e Co u rse B was heavy on the three Ts - tight, t wis ty and techn ic al. Fifteen -ye a r-o l d Matt Zan g was lik e a yo u ng J ed i kni g h t , b attl in g both A re a 51 co urses aboard hi s Yamaha. He not only do m inated the 250cc Am ateur class, he wa s th e fir st overall Am ateur on both days. "I really li ke th e B Course thi s weeke nd," stated Zang , "I had a horribl e three-k ick start on the bom b for th is course, but I was able to m ak e my way to the fro nt of th e A mateur s on thi s ti ght , tec hnical co urse." Thirteen-year-ol d Cameron Kea rney wa s running in fir st for two lap s on hi s YZ85 . with 14- year-old Richard " Bubba" Chandler , on hi s Renthal/Amsoil /Scott·back ed Yamaha , nipping at his rear fend er . Th en the unthinkabl e happened. " I stalled on a hi ll . and my bik e tippe d ov er." Kearney exp lained. "I brok e m y brak e, and by th e time I got going agai n , I couldn't hol d on to first. " Chandler saw his chance to take the lead . "I saw Kearney when , was comi ng down the ridge ." Chandler recounted. "He wa s up o n the hill , getting squirrelly . and he laid his bike over . On ce I got past him on the hill , I w as abl e to han g on for the win ."
