BRIEFLY••• The Romanian circui t was built at the Baneasa A irport. and it featured a long extension as well as a long and fast off -road sec tio n. The race distances were set at 10 laps for the pr eliminary heats and 20 for the main event. due to the long circuit. The fi g h t for secon d pla ce l as ted " My good physical condition helped me a lot this weekend.- stated race winner Edd y Seel , ..and I think overall it was a really good race for me. I started with good time laps in the Saturday' s practice s and the qualIfying. Starting from last move. Kunz el t hen spent the la st six to first , these top fo u r rid ers w ent into laps protecting th e last p la c e o n t he t h e Su p e r Po le laps, and the front of th e se r ie s p oints lead . event we went back to ano the r nre, and everything went just perfect wi th the start in front and the opportunity then to just do my best every lap. That' s the best situation for me. as I can pick the ideal lines . I want to start first because I do not wa nt to get into guy s like Lazzarini. Manzo or Charobon. you know. Lazzarini especially rides very. very good. I know him very well from riding all the Italian nationals. and he is really dangerous if you do not go away immediately.- p odium, whi ch allowed him to reg a in th e grid for th e SuperFinal was ex ac t- had big problems because we tested something new on the engine. and it didn't work. unfortunately, For the second heat we worked on the engine. and I could make a really good start with the holeshot. But also we tested a new tire for that moto, and in the first laps you can't force too much with that. so that's why Kunzel passed me really easy in the back of the Circuit. T he start was c rucial, and Seel this F orm er c ha m p io ns h i p le a de r Chambon had t o w ork h ard in t h e SuperFina l, and after th e black fl ag in t im e got a sp ec t acu lar on e, with Kun ze l rig h t b e hi nd an d Lazzari ni third . The B e lgian wa s in fin e form , and he put to gether so me im p ressiv e laps to pull cl ear of th e pack . But even when KTM's Boris Chambon won moto number one but cou ld only manage a f ourth in t he Superfina l, re linquishi ng his points le ad to t he Gennan , Kunzel. But the biggest disappointment for Eddy Seel is the gap in the standings. "lts seven races left, and it' s early 10 think about the title Wi th this new system. but for me it's hard because I gol two DNFs already. and I have to hope somebody else goes into lroubles a little bit. " he said. - So if Chambon. Kunzel and Lazzarini have problems. they can still hope for the title. but me. if I have another problem. I'm out of the battle." Ivan La zzarini want s that first GP win so badly, but in Romania there was n't much he could do 10 get it. "I wasn't happy after Saturday. and even if the bike was okay. I couldn't ride it the clean way I wanted ." Lazzarini said. " In the first mot o I sta rte d third . behind Manzo. and J was go ing to catch Chambon, but my engine started working strange. and I couldn't change speed as normal. and oft en it went into neutral. So I lo st a lot of time because o f that. and for the next race I used my second bike. and I decided to avoid risks and be happy with third place. In the main event I started third. and I thought they would have run away. but Kunzel was there and not far. so I tried to risk a little bit this time. and I succeed. I'm happy with the second place. but I want to W a in main event. I know I can do that. I hope in Austria I can be 1DO-percent okay with the bike and acco mplish that. .. KTM 's Jurgen Kunzel didn' t expect such a good race. " Saturday was a so-and-so day. and especially because I wasn't comfortable with the track. and I couldn't find the right combination to push: Kunzel said. ..But on Sunday. race after race. everything was getting better. and the first heat really helped my motivation, and I could then be able to win the second moto. In the main event the problem was that the LC4 is a big and heavy bike. and Wi th the long SuperFinal I suffered arm pump. I completely lost the power in my arm. and that opened the door a little bit to Lazzanni. If I think that yesterday I wasn't feeling good. and now I'm standings leader. I can't believe it. It's really good because next round is In Austria where KTM comes from AI the next GP in Austria. Kunzel might race the smaller KTM . the same one used by Boris Chambon in Romania. In M etk. Kunzel will test bot h bikes and then make his cho ice . There were mixed feelings on the Romanian G P for Boris C ham bo n . who said: " The race started so good with a really easy w in in the first rnoto . " he said. " Then in the second I did a big mistake in the start. I had a jump-start, and aher the first lap I was looking for the stop-and-go flag, but I didn't see anything. so in the second lap I was fighting With Lazzarini. and I didn't see that they we re indicating me to go stop-and -go , so I saw that only in the third lap. I was sure it was the first time. and I was thinking I had three more laps before stopping, but I was wrong because it was too late. So I was eventually welcomed With the black flag. It was my mistake. In the SuperFinal I didn't have that bad start. but II was too dangerous in the first comers. as I didn't want to crash like some others did. So I waited a little bit before pushing all the way. With a bette r start I cou ld have fought for the win. I'm only one poi nt away fro m Kunzel in the stand- ings. and it' s not a big deal being second like that. The season is stdl long. and I'm incredibly happy with my new bike. which features a smaller tank also. and if you think that today was the fir st race . it can just improve much more for the rest of the championship."
