Th e rains fi na lly came during th e 2 50cc A final , causi ng it and two other finals to be pa id fro m th e heat results. Th is gave th e 250 cc A w in to Lew is, w ho had tak en th e lead before the rain s hit , and the 600cc B win to Jordan. With lightning flashing in the east , off icials went into hurry -up m od e, sho rteni ng the heats to fiv e laps to at least get th ose com pleted . When th e in iti al danger went sou th and the h eat s wer e co m p lete d , th e on ly class wi th m ultiple heats, th e 250cc B class, was moved fr om the latt er th ird of the order to first up . J ordan was fi rst off th e li ne, with Cory T ex t er , A u st i n Gree n la nd, J o rda n Har ri s a nd Brandon Rob inson in close pu rsuit . A fter some in iti al j ou stin g , J or dan put some di stance on th e others. Greenl and sli p ped back to fifth , w hil e T exter , Robinson and Harr is pounded away at eac h othe r for seco nd. In the 600cc heat, J orda n easil y won , ove r R.J . Hart , T exter and Robin son . In the Sp o r tsman fin al , Lew is an d B aer pulled awa y from a three-way batt le for th ird am on g Ry an Hender son , T om M cG ran e J r. and Jordan. Baer stayed high and Lewis low in th e early stages as th ey batt led fo r th e lead , but Lew is pu ll ed away by halfway . McGrane fin a ll y got t he best o f soon-to- be A r id er s Hend er son and J ord an in the la te stages of the race. O ne rider wh o was glad to run the fina l was Bill Brom ley, wh o took the lead at th e end of th e opening lap in the Ove r 30 heat , only to have his spa rk -pl ug cap break off as he ended t h e se c o nd la p . H e m a n a g e d no t t o ge t rammed by th e follow ing riders. A t the end of the firs t lap , fou r riders co ll ide d entering the first turn . Off th e resta rt, Dave Sm ith took the lead fro m Brom ley , Dam ia n Koco vl nos and Ric h M ell inger. Chase went do wn hims elf a lap later, hand ing the lead to Reyes, who did his best to ho ld off the c hallenges of Chase, but it was to no ava il , as Ch ase was able to m ake a last -lap m ov e to get to th e checkers first.
