On the la st lap, Vernon g o t a run o n t h e outsi de of Hl ebo coming ou t of fou r, b ut Hlebo barely hel d onto the runner -up pos it ion. Vernon settled for third. Cheney t o o k four th . Lehfe ldt kept fi ft h p l a c e ; Lau rsen ended in sixth , Pankey got aro un d M arc Willi ams t o t a k e sev enth, and Sowders finished in eighth . In sem i number tw o , Ha lbert was look ing t o redeem himself after hav in g a tr an sfer p osi t ion and sl idin g down during his heat race . Halbert got th e hol eshot and m ade the race pretty boring by le adi ng the race flag to flag . Ragsdal e slid into second with M att Wait in third. Brian Vin c ent worked his way from six th to fo urth and beg an work ing on Wait fo r the final tran sfer. With two laps to go; Vincent go t too high in turn fo ur , letting Na t e W ait get un der him and into fourth pla ce. Halbert took a convincing win over fell ow Was hington rider Ragsdale. Ma tt Wait ro unded out the m ain even t fi eld. Nate Wait. Vincent and the others headed to the Silver Cup. Meyers o wned the Sil ver Cup, leading the race from st ar t to f i n i s h . Lau rsen got off the line in second, but contact w ith Vincent dropped him to six th . The collision b etween the two friends left a hole for Cheney to grab second pl ac e. Vin cent sal vaged th ird position . Le hfel dt w as up to fourth . Wi lliams, Pankey and Joe Snyder battl ed for fifth . Laursen j oined the battle, dropping Pankey to eighth place. Sny der took fifth from Williams by going on th e insid e o f th e Yamaha ri d e r . Tom McGrane Jr. ent ered the top 10 aft er g etting under Nicole C h eza . Back up front th e t op spots didn't ch ange, but sixth did when Laursen mad e an ins id e p a ss on t he front straight st i c k o n Williams . Eigh th pl aced Pan k ey 's troubles weren 't over j ust yet, as McGrane, Jennifer Sn yd er and Ch eza all got by. dropping him to 1 1tho Mey ers k ept his lead with some pres su re from Cheney . Vincen t still sat in th ird as the fr ont th ree started to pull away wi th five laps r e m a i n i n g . Lehfeld t ran an un c o nt est ed fourth place . T he rea l race was for fifth p lace between Joe Snyder and La urs en . At fi rst, Laursen ke pt using th e outside li ne t o no avail. The next lap , La urse n' s pass stuck, and th e Mi chigan r i d e r was fi fth . At th e checkers it was Meyers tak ing th e win . Cheney , Vincent and Lehfeldt rou nded ou t th e top four. Laursen 's fifth place didn' t last long. as McGra ne got un d erneath him to t ake it away . J o e Sn yder end ed in se ve nth . William s w as e ig h th , and Jennifer Snyde r was ninth . Ro unding out the to p 10 was Sowde rs, wh o got underneath Pankey and took hi s line away in turn o ne and use d th e same m ove on Ch eza in turn fou r. Cumm ings h ad the fastest heat race and sat on th e po le for the main e ve n t, b u t M ees got the h o l esho t , only to see Dur elle pass him an d lead th e fir st la p . Poovey m oved to second, and Mees slip ped to third . As th e ra c e progressed , Durell e c o n ti n u e d t o l ead Po o v e y. Mee s slipped up eno ug h that McCoy t oo k advantag e o f the m i st ak e and grabbed third. Cummi n gs w as run ning a lo nely fifth pos ition , and Sm it h got by Wil es for seventh. Hal bert ran n in th , an d St an ley pa ssed Teague' s KTM on the in side for 10th. Second pl aced Poovey got arou nd Durelle on the front stra ight , bu t Durelle ha d an answer t o Poovey 's pass by passing him on the inside c oming out of two. Mees and McCoy were in a tight bat tl e fo r the fin al pod ium spot. Smith got past Pearson and w ith i n a l a p c aug ht up to Cu m mings for fifth posi tion . Pearson was now se venth. with St an ley eig hth aft er pass ing Halbert, Th e lea ders b egan to pull away from third -pla c ed Mees, who sl ipped up so me, and McC oy got bac k by for the fina l time. Smith m ade a pass on Cumm ings on the bottom of th e trac k fo r fifth. W ith tw o laps to go , th e blu e fl a g wa s being sho w n t o Rag sd al e and Matt Wa it. This tim e th e lead er s we re right behind them . Ragsdale ha d pulled o ut to ma ke th e pass o n Wai t but quickly fell back in line as Du rell e t o o k t he o utsid e. W a i t was on the bottom , which was Poovey 's li ne. and it proved costly to the fa ctory Hondabacked v et eran. Poovey got undernea th Wa it c o m ing out of tw o and pulled ba ck up to Du relle , who held on to his m o m entum for another lap and held off Poovey to w in his first For mu la USA of the year. McCoy, Mees and Cummings held o nto the to p five . Smith ended his race in sixth , St an ley seventh . and e ighth to H a l b e rt as Pe a r so n and Scherb rounded out the top 10 . The Memphis Sh ad es -spo n so red twins main event was all Ja red Me es. Willie McCoy wa s fourth until he to ok the inside line and go t und er neath Tyer in turn three . On lap four, McCoy came around t he outs ide of J on es but got too high and hi t the tuff bloc k s. T he re d fl ag cam e out, and th e riders lin ed up for a sing le -f il e restart. McCoy got up, and his crew to ugher fo r McCoy to get around , but got his m angled b ik e bac k togethe r the best th ey could. On the restart, Mc Coy st arted in th e back and began pi ck in g off rid ers on e by o ne . It was good for McCoy , but wh ile he was fighting traffic, Mees was ext end in g his lead. Tyer got around J on es for second , Joe Duvall sat in fo urth , and McCoy was up to fifth. A la p la ter McCoy got aro u nd Duvall, and so d id Steve Liberty. Jones was he fin all y d id with two lap s to go . By th en it was too lat e, and Mees took the win. T yer grabbed second , and McCoy fought t o th ird . Jones held off Lib erty for fourth . Sixth went to Duva ll, with Rob ert Buffington seventh . Th e BSA of Bria n L ehfeldt w a s ei g h t h .
